Virgin Taking Away Mobile Web

Hi, I have lurked for a while here but never posted before.

I purchased a very cheap Samsung PAYG on Virgin two years ago and despite it having very few features have been content with it. Today I got a text from Virgin telling me their mobile web technology had been upgraded and I should visit a Virgin website address. Once there I was told that my phone is no longer compatible with the mobile web and to retain web access I must purchase a new phone. Helpfully (!) they provide a link to their selection of "compatible" new phones, which are "all compatible with our new mobile web technology". No indication of any trade-in on my old phone. I don't access the web very often by my phone but I will certainluy miss it.

I feel really ripped off by this. Anyone else received the same message?.

  • If I was in your situation assuming you are PAYG then I would get my phone unlocked, ditch Virgin Mobile and go with Asda Mobile where internet is 20p per Mb and calls are 8p per minute and texts are 4p per minute. I would also download Opera Mini browser and use that when accessing the internet as it compresses the data and costs less to view web pages than the phones built in browser. This is only my opinion as this is what I have on one of my phones a Samsung E250.
