Re:Youtube

Re:Wathing Youtube Without The "Pauses"

I was watching YouTube yesterday evening after 18:00 hours 6p.m onwards I noticed that YouTube Videos were intermittently freezing on the popular Video Sharing Site

Normally back in August YouTube was working just fine I think its perhaps evening "Congestion" on YouTube Servers I have fairly fast broadband is there any solution to this?
I tried logging into w ww youtubeca in Canada no difference I was thinking about trying to use a subscription high speed proxy all the free ones are too slow for video streaming.

Thanks,

James

Just download the FLV file (the standard YouTube format, Flash Video) to your desktop using something like the Video Download Helper add-on in Firefox, then watch it after it's fully downloaded in a media player such as FLV Player or VLC.
  • Looks like :spam: to me.

Why would anyone invest in a proxy to stream youtube videos?

Depending on who your ISP is, the probable cause is traffic shaping. Many providers limit the bandwidth for traffic types such as video streaming in the peak hours after 6pm so that less bandwidth-hungry users aren't impacted.

As isofa says, download in advance - you will obviously have to wait a bit longer, but the results will be much easier to watch.

Hmmm... noting your signature line, I think in this case you've gone too far!

If the OP were spamming to promote a subscription proxy service, he would have named it, wouldn't he?

Must admit though I can't see a rationale for using a proxy - you would just be adding an extra link in the chain.

Using a Proxy means you can use YouTube in a different time zone preferably offpeak with better Server Farm Infrastructure admittely Good Proxies slow your broadband down they also cost money £

Now Traffic Squaring sounds like an interesting concept to me actually the first time I have heard of it I don't use the Net to download Massive Gegabyte Films I am supposed to have an Unlimited service with my Isp BUT yes that comes with "Terms & Conditions"
I need to see how much I am downloading is YouTube really that "heavy"?

I guess my Isp will deny they are doing it but I have only noticed this this month of September 2009

    Thanks,

Interesting comment so basically I need one of those automated software that will schedule downloads for you takes the fun out of YouTube
I will be checking my monthly downloads to see if its high

Not all videos on YouTube are slow though whats the reason for this?
You sure its not YouTube who are behind this they are a very sophistocated operation. :)

    Thanks,

As a workaround, you could always press 'play', then press 'pause', wait a minute for the entire file to buffer in your machine, then unpause it.

That sometimes works but noticed even that would not work.

I came across Videoaccelerator on YouTube but it only works if you have a slow connection some of the comments on YouTube stated it actually made things worst

I checked my download useage for a month from Isp it was 2116.2 MB download Cap on their Unlimited Package so thats 21 GB a month yes approximately if my conversion is right sounds like bandwith shaping alright lol

    Thanks James

2116.2 MB is not 21GB! It is 2.1GB (near enough).

    Who is your ISP?

well when i had a dial up internet I used to click pause on the video and go make a cup of tea then come back with it all streamed into memory for pauseless playback. Not good for multiple veiwings but it is a solution.
