My bank account has been closed without notice

Last week i decided i needed to sell a few bits on ebay , i have had a barclays bank account for years ,i havn't used it for about two years but it stil had about nine pound in the account , i left nine pound in the account so the account would stay open.So i set up my paypal account and ebay and went to the bank to see what paypal had payed into my account so i could verify the paypal account .Then i was told that my account had been closed .I have had no letter to say that it had been closed ,and the lady behind the counter said there was no record of a letter being sent ,in there terms and conditions it states that they have to give you 8 weeks notice before closing a account. The lady has loged this as a complaint and she said someone will contact me with in five working days,Is there anything legal i can do or say to them as this has really peed me off . THANX

If suspected fruad is involved then no notice has to be given.
Unused account for years, with £9 in, suddenly has PayPal direct debits being setup and used a lot; this screams fraud.0 -
Might i just say the lady said it was shut in May .The paypal was set up 7 days ago and hasn't even been activated because the account is closed .If suspected fruad is involved then no notice has to be given.

barclays will get around it, they will turn around and say it was dormant so they have every right to close to protect you0

you are still missing the point ,the account had money in and should not have been closed even the lady in the bank said so :T
Why not?
You're being very against Barclays when all they've done is closed a dormant account.
I don't know what else you expect when you have had the account for the past 2 years completely unused.
Maybe if you yourself got a brain, you might understand why they have done it.0 -
Accounts unused for more than twelve months are classed as dormant. The account has been closed as dormant.
We are not required to give notice for this action, as under 14.3 of the Retail Customer Agreement as we are not ending our relationship with you. Eight weeks notice is only required if we are closing or transferring your account due to a branch closing. Otherwise, it is thirty days unless we have cause to close immediately.
The money is still yours and can be reclaimed through the British Bankers Association. We do not get to keep your money. What would William Shatner do?0
