Google Maps on HTC Hero worse?

Hey there, a quick question about using Google Maps on the HTC Hero/G2.

When using the map to show driving directions/route, why doesn't your location get tracked as it does on the the HTC Touch HD or even the Iphone?

The blue dot showing your location stays in the same spot until you press 'my location' again...

Surely they couldn't have omitted this basic feature, or am I missing something?

I have mobile internet AND GPS on, as well as enabling my location to be determined in the settings menu via both.
Try to imagine nothing ever existed...

Don't forget that the Hero is still in its infancy. I'm waiting for the first firmware upgrade to increase the performance of the Sense UI more than anything. I'd just wait for a bit until the software matures a little :)

google maps is not really a GPS system.

Try something else like co-pilot for android.

or if you want to sell the htc hero pm me.

Hah, I love my HTC Hero, it's definitely the best piece of electronic kit I have ever bought.

As for Sat Nav systems, I have a Tom Tom so don't need to buy co-pilot.

I know that google maps isn't supposed to offer turn by turn directions, but it is supposed to track your location as you move, like it does on the HTC Touch HD or even maps on the Iphone.

Anyway, I am pleased to announce that I used it today (walking and not driving) and everything seemed to work today, so it may have just been the weather yesterday. I will try it in the car tomorrow.

One thing that they can definitely improve is utilising the compass in map mode (and not just street view), so that the map orientates in the same direction as you, as it does on the iphone.

Amen to that. I love this handset. Give me one of these any day over the iPhone :)
