Reducing Contract Length Question

Does anybody know if it's possible to talk down cotract lengths? I don't want to commit to a 24 month contract due to uncertain working future, but I've found some really great £15/month contracts that I'd be interested in if the contracts weren't so long. I wondered if anyone has had any success in talking the contract lengths down as it would be more beneficial for me, and for the phone company really, as I'm sure that they'd prefer their customers to be able to pay their bills.

Unfortunately you can't reduce the length of contract once you have signed, but you can after a minimum period of time reduce your monthly tariff.

If you are talking about negotiating a contract that they are offering, by all means you can express your desire to only want 18 month contracts, but may have to pay more per month/accept a cheaper handset, unless you haggle really well.

If the £15 a month includes a phone, no.
The cost of the phone is covered by the amount you pay each month (the phone's aren't really 'free' you know).
If you want a contact over a lower term with the same phone then it'll be more per month as the the network has less time to get their costs back.
  • Yes, I assumed that was the case. I just wondered if anyone had success in this area. I know the phones aren't really free but I just wondered if anyone thought it was worth a shot, especially in the current economic status. But I suppose I'll have to deal with it.

You can always go into a store and haggle. I know p4u and cpw will do deals close to their month end when their light on sales for the month. Just go in with a phone and a price in mind and don't shift, it's got to be worth a try. . . (good luck if you try, let us know how you do!).

Your best bet is getting an old or new Pay G orange sim and phone their customer service line to enquire about switching to pay monthly.

They are offering cracking deals to convert PayG customers to pay monthly...

Example - £14.67/m - 400xnet mins, unlimitited texts, Nokia 5800, Orange numbers, but on a 24 month contract (should be 5 pound more a month online, and 10 pound more in store).

If you ask for 18 months, they will probably just half the minutes, but still a CRACKING deal.

  • Well I made anothe rpost about this website and it turns out it's legit. What I decided to do was get a T-Mobile contract from a London based company called Chitter Chatter. They offer the Solo contracts (30 day rolling contract with no commitment) with free and cheap phones. I've got a T-Mobile Vairy Touch phone for £20 on a £15/m contract, 350 minutes and unlimited texts. When I called and ordered they actually threw the phone in free! So my troubles are fixed thanks to this great company! Thanks everyone.
