Thanks all - It took about 14 weeks in total (although back dated to the beggining of May) - Im just so glad that it doesnt have to go to appeal - He was even given more than we were expecting - The nice lady who helped us fill in his forms at the CAB (who have been fantastic by the way) said she thought he would only get middle rate care but he has been given higher. Looking at his award letter they have given it to him for 2 years so have to go through all this again in 2011. Is that normal?0

Usually the 1st award is for 2 years, then you get the paperwork through approximately 6 months before the claim expiress, from memory its less to fill in than the original form.
This is how mine worked out
2yrs/3yrs/3/yrs/2 yrs - in now, they did explain it was ony two years as I was underging hospital appointments
whereas my mum
2 yrs on low care rate, then the paperwork we filled in, her health had deteriorated, she was awarded low rate care, high rate mobility, she was given hers for life.
usually the 2 yr 1st claim is like an introduction period to see how things go, it sounds daf but don't worry when you get the renewal form, xxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

The length of time you are awarded DLA is dependant on how long your needs are expected to last.
There is no such thing as an induction period0 -

Each persons assesment is different, just wanted to give you an idea how mine went, it does depend on how long they determine your illness will last.xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Any DLA award (even the old indefinite awards) are subject to random review after a year anyway.
Under the RPP, the old exemptions are no longer in place.
However, for the majority of claims, if the disability has remained the same or worsened, the reviews seem to go through more easily than inital claims.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0
