We helped my Father-in-law with his DLA forms at the beggining of June and they were recieved on 11th June (12 weeks ago). We still haven't recieved a decision and want to know what to do next.
They state that they asked the Dr's for a form to be filled out at the end of June and I have spoken to the Dr's who state they returned it at the end on July. When I call the DWP to check they say they still havent recieved these forms yet but they did tell me that the office has now moved from Wembley to Cardiff so may have been lost in transit there. DWP are now saying that they will fax another form to the Dr's looks like it is going to be at least another month now even before the first decision let alone any appeals he might need
What can I do to help them along abit?
He really needs this money he is living hand to mouth at the moment and we are having to subsidise him which is not easy. We also do his cooking, Cleaning, shopping and washing as well as holding down full time jobs and looking after our own 2 year old - We cant get any help from anyone - Social services dont want to know as "he has family"
He needs to be in sheltered housing but the council wont house him until he is either 60 or has recieved this DLA (he is 59).

Not much you can do tbh, except keep tele them, perhaps every 10 days or so.
When a decision is made any payments will be back-dated.0 -
They are so so busy right now, as you can tell by the complete lack of appointments at many places that do benefits advice. Did Dr photocopy his report? Can you ask? If so that might speed things up0

It took about 2 months in total for them to do mine, then again they didnt loose any paprework.
although i had a letter saying it would take about 12 weeks ish.
good luck keep on to themLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
Thought id update you - we finally have a result - he has been awarded High rate care and high rate mobility - Thats quite some back pay!0

Well done, I'm glad it finally came through for you. how many weeks was that in total?
look after that money because (for me) they only pay every 4th week on a Tuesday, although first payment was on a Thursday, so expect the next one about the 13th next month.
It is an emotional time, waiting, wondering if you fit the criteriaLife is about give and take, if you can't give why should you take?0 -
It's really good to hear of your success - hopefully the local authority can get a move on to get him into sheltered housing now.
Good luck with it. :hello:Some people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever
