Returning an item advice

Can somebody advice does ebay have some sort of a new returns management option or have I dreamt about it. I was unfortunate enough to buy something that arrived with a damage that wasn't stated in description, contacted the seller immediately(still waiting for reply), is there something else that I should do? I'm sure I've heard about printing returns slips etc. If seller agrees to resolve amicably I believe I should just post the item back recorded post, what do I do if he/she doesn't, open a paypal dispute..?

  • The seller should give you a return address for returning the item. Make sure you get the refund first before returning it and then use recorded. If the seller does not give you the refund you can open a PayPal dispute for item Significantly Not As Described.

  • And there we go. "I said I don't accept returns and the item was fine when I sent it"
  • hi there
i sell on ebay and there is an automated system now for returns as long as your seller accepts them. If they dont then go into paypal to instigate a dispute.
I must be honest though - I would never refund a customer until the item is back in my hands - so dont expect a refund first.
Even paypal will ask you to return goods via a tracked delivery and ensure they have arrived before a refund is issued;)

Surely you return it by recorded then get the refund. If you got the refund then returned it there would those tempted not to return.

I've done that several times in the past and the customer has always returned the item. It's a matter of mutual trust and gut feeling as long as it's an amicable agreement.icon7.gif

  • babyharry, oh I understand now about automated system. Of course I want to return the item and don't expect the refund before I do, it's just the seller doesn't give me the address and not even email so that i can send her pics of the damage and is denying everything althogether.
I've just opened paypal dispute. I can't undertsand a few things though.
    1. If I have to escalate to a claim what are the chances paypal will resolve it in buyers favour and I won't get the money back? No idea what they consider "significantly" not as described?
    2. What happens if I send it recorded and buyer refuses to sign for it?
    Thanks for your help guys.

Can you believe seller escalated to a claim now with a message saying "there was no damage when I sent it and i believe buyer just changed her mind" It doesn't give me option to reply! I can't believe some people are so dishonest, the damage doesn't look like it occured in transit:((

In past experience the buyer always wins in these cases so resistance by the seller is futile. I think you just have to supply a tracking number for the item.

99.9% of the time , the buyer will win the dispute; especially now as the seller is not even trying to be amicable about it and has escalated to claim!
