cat problems

We have a cat who is about 18 months old. He has been a real pain over the last month and keeps peeing everywhere. He is scrartching up the carpets in every room. His favourite ons is peeing in the bath, which is easier to clean! Has had his bits done and does have access to a litter tray. He does go outside but we haven't got a catflap and as our house is so draughty don't feel inclined to put one in. Anyone offer any advice as this has got to stop or he goes.

theres a product from Kleneze called Scratch no More,
We inherited a cat and were at our wits end, she was ruining the carpets.

This stuff stopped her in her track, cost about a tenner but worth every penny.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Hi there, its odd that he's only recently started to wee/scratch - has there been any changes in his situation recently (new pets/move/maybe another cat that's invading his terrritory?). Could also be worth getting him checked out at the vets in case its an infection. There's a really helpful book called 'Cat Confidential' that I read a while ago - it looks into all sorts of possible reasons why things like this could be happening - surprisingly readable as well!
Re: the scratching - I got a similar product to the Kleeneze one mentioned from Wilko, but it was much cheaper, and still worked (though that was a while ago now). Good luck - hope it gets sorted!
  • You really must take him to vet to get checked over, it could be a urinary tract infection and he could be in great discomfort!
Re both scratching and peeing...you could try a wonderful product called Feliway. It comes as a room diffuser to and also a spot on spray. Basically scratching and peeing are both ways of marking territory for a cat that feels insecure, the feliway mimics the happy scent they leave when they rub their faces up against things and can really help with these negative patterns.

Aa others have said first check with a vet incase he has an infection, also make sure the litter tray is really clean my cat also occasionaly uses the bath if i forget to clean the tray, cats are usualy very clean animals but like us are not keen on using a dirty toilet.

As above, make sure the litter tray is always clean. My cats will point blank refuse to go anywhere near it if it is dirty.

Also, has there been any stress in your house at all e.g. new people, changing furniture about? This can often confuse a cat and lead to them peeing in unusual places. We have recently had our hall and living room refloored and during the period of moving furniture out, having flooring fitted and moving furniture back in my two cats had peed on both beds, the shower, the sink and caught in the act about to pee on the sofa!

If you ever catch your cat in the act about to pee on something, move him immediately to the litter tray, this will hopefully reassociate peeing with going to the litter tray in his mind.

I have always bought mine from different sellers on E bay and found them to be the cheapest.

It really is good stuff! Usually delivery after winning within 2 days with most sellers.

Also agree with the vets. One of mine had cystitis when he was weeing frequently and apparently one sign can be weeing in strange places.

I also got a scratching board. It is one that goes on the b=floor and made of cardboard. My cats were scratching sofas and carpets and this put a stop to it. It comes with catnip to attract them onto to it.

From memory only about £5 as well
