Sky Protection (Warning)

  • I had a phone call from a company offering me a similar service (£x for system warranty service) shortly after joining sky. It didn't occur to me though that they may not be sky and either a "third party" company or scammer.

What did occur to me is that part of my contract with Sky is to pay them for a service and their part to provide me with functional equipment for that service. Therefore, if a fault developed with the box within the 12 months I'd request a replacment for free. The chap ended the call abruptly with that line of questioning. Not sure on reflection if this is true but I'm happy to argue it.

I've just has a call from a Sky warranty company and first thought was to come on here and warn people...It didn't take long to find a thread about it!

Here is quick summary of the conversation.

Scammer: Mr SMK77, your Sky warranty has expired.
Me: Can you please take my details off the list
    SCammer: Why?
Me; Because I am asking you to.
    Scammer: Why?
Me: Look, please take my details off your list.
    Scammer: Why?
Me: I don't use my Sky box much and when I do it's just for the free to air (or is it free to view?)
    Scammer: It's not free.
    Me: Er, yes it is!
Scammer: If you don't renew I'll cut your signal
Me: And how are you going to do that?
Scammer: What do you mean? Of course I can do that.
    Me: No you can't!

Scammer sees his **** and hangs up!

lets not forget you get a 12 month warranty on equipment, and the sky contract is 12 months so if it breaks after that, just say you will move to virgin and they will back down and replace for free.
