For the last 6 months I have been getting phone calls claiming to be from Lloyds TSB - in fact I think it is a debt collection company acting for them. The problem is that the callers are asking to speak to someone else, ie they have the wrong number. I have tried everything I can to get them to recognise this and stop calling. If I call the number they leave I just get a recorded message. The number is 01273 743 574 which I think is in Brighton.

Does anyone know who these people are and how I can speak to them directly? Even Lloyds TSB themselve seem unable to stop this.

Lloyds are a waste of space, My boyfriend paid off an account 6-7 months ago and closed the account, we are STILL getting calls saying we owe them almost £600. No matter how many times we say this and argue with them (This takes between 30 - 60 mins) and get them to admit the account no longer exsists and put a 'note' on the account not to call, They continue to call us 2-4 times a week.

The number is the same number that calls me, And I have rang Lloyds and they say the account doesn't exsist and that they have no connection with Brighton debt collections.

Edit: When we were closing the account even Llyods had a problem with 'Brighton' saying our account was not able to be closed. They are rude and arrogant when they ring and have even swore at me saying I wasn't even the account holder and Knew 'nothing' and that maybe my OH was lying to me about his spending habits. When I told them to check their records and that I was named on the account and we split the card in half 2 years ago, He hung up on me.

As I was typing this they are calling AGAIN.

Sorry to regurgitate this thread but I recently moved house, I never used to get spam or cold callers ringing me when I was with Virgin, 3 days after with BT I started getting calls from this number (01273 743 574) - It's beginning to get pretty annoying as its every day for the past 2 months. I just dont answer it, and never have done as I can see who it is with the number display feature. I'm on all the spam lists etc but I still get these calls through.

I've never been a Lloyds TSB customer, and the house is a new build so no-one ever existed at this address before me.

It's plain and simple spam calls. BT cant block it for me either.
  • We're in exactly the same position, new house and 'new' BT line.

I've tried so hard to explain the circumstances but each time the caller asks something like 'do you know where Mr X is?" thereby completely ignoring my previous explanation!!!!

This happens up to 3 times per day, even on weekends, I've just had enough but can't find a way of stopping the calls!
  • Hey...I have been getting this call daily im 14 and they are asking for a woman who i dont know or even heard of. brought this phone brand new with a brand new sim card on the 29th dec...They are saying i am a liar and just dont want to admit who i am so my mum got on the phone and gave them what for...But he still continued to want proof how log i have had my phone and what my number is and i am not the person they wish to speak to.... We all seem to be sharing the same nuisance call problems. Requests to be removed from their list are ignored, the fact in my case that a person of the name they give has not lived at our address since 1980 is ignored. With sufficient numbers interested we could consider legal action to stop the harassment and to claim compensation. If sufficient numbers are up for action we can try one of the TV watchdog programmes first with a plan B for further action. Any interest?
  • hmmm I have been having these calls from 01273 743 574, and as I explain everytime to them, STOP ringing me please and anything you have to say, put it in writing to me... still the calls come on my mobile and landline number, damned annoying

It's annoying. I've lived at my address, and had the same landline number for 5yrs. Clearly numbers move around, and are not tied to a particular house. We had calls for the first 2yrs asking for a name I've never heard of. We bout the house 2nd hand, and the name wasn't the people we bought it from. Indeed, one time the caller asked me if it was "xxx" address, and it wasnt even in the same part of the city! I tried to explain this, but she wanted to know my name, and my address. I said I don't give personal details over the phone, but they would be getting nowhere.

Eventually they stopped, but just recently have started again. I just say its a wrong number. But one actually lied and said "well we spoke to mr xxx on this number last week!".

I was gobsmacked! And I gave them an earful, telling them they will get nowhere and don't be so bloody stupid as to think a phone number stays at a fixed address forever. I also said I would report them for harassment if they kept using my number, and if someone owed them money from 5 years ago, they ought to try writing to them, or getting a PI to locate them.

I was also skeptical of these calls, I asked what the call was regarding & was given a really vague "it's a personal business matter". I doubted it initially and said I'd visit my branch about it, they didn't seem to have a problem with this.

As it was, a company had debited my debit card without authorisation  My Lloyds account used to be my main account, however I no longer have my wages paid into it, and this transaction had taken me over my planned overdraft limit without my knowledge. So it seems on this occasion it was genuine (also a random 01273 number).

However, I was none too happy before I discovered this, thinking I was simply receiving cold calls. I'm usually pretty patient but they took the biscuit calling me early on a Sunday morning. I was horrified

Perhaps Lloyds should look at reviewing the DCA/outsourcer that they use to make these phone calls, especially after some of the comments above (customers being sworn at and accused of lying). I think that, and calling at unreasonable times (like with myself and family112), is completely unacceptable & they need to be looking into these various complaints.

here is someone taking them to court and it looks like they are going to win. Even if you owe money, harassment is firstly a CRIMINAL OFFENCE and secondly, you can claim damages for suffering it.
