Some would say nothing wrong with the punishment, others wouldn't see it as purposeful or constructive in guiding their children to make good choices which is usually their goal. I mean if it was the husband that lied about the situation instead of the daughter, I'm not sure people would be supporting punishment in the same way, yet it would be no different.
There is also nothing wrong with a parent with strong ideas on discipline, as long as it isn't merely misguided power displayed through control and bullying tactics, as is sadly very often the case.
One has to ask what the objective of the punishment is and whether it is likely to produce the desired effect, before jumping in.
Most people are capable of making good decisions and mistakes, something I have noticed is fairly unrelated to age.0 -
