Easyjet to shut East Midlands base

East Midlands Airport is owned by Manchester Airport Group along with Manchester Airport (surprisingly), Bournemouth and Humberside airports. The airports (well, BAA owned ones) forgot what industry they were in and expanded into property, invested too heavily and are now lumped with billion pound debts. I'm not sure who own EMA but they are not BAA owned hence why it is a better experience to visit as BAA airports are like going to Meadowhall on a Saturday - so many shops and cafe and yet just one little security gate! This space has been intentionally left blank0 -

I agree, it looks like some kind of bartering is going on here, I wouldn't mind but I have recently booked 4 return flights in 2010 from East Midlands with Easyjet and no hope of a refund before December, by which time prices will have increased..
Not a fair way to treat loyal customers.0 -
Nottingham Airport it as at Tollerton http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&q=Nottingham+Airport&vps=5&jsv=176c&sll=52.948741,-0.963879&sspn=0.04975,0.143337&ie=UTF8&geocode=Fax9JwMdW5Pv_w&split=0Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

Indeed it is, however in fairness, they did change EMA to NEMA a couple of years ago, the " N " being for Nottingham, they swiftly changed it back to EMA.;)0 -
Aside from the petty squabbling over a simple mistake on the name of the airport this does place customers in a very difficult position. I have 11 seats booked for a group in April. I have no option other than to wait for Easy Jet to cancel our flights. There is suggestion that they may offer an alternative from Luton but that would mean a longer transfer and additional costs to the group.
With regards to the consultations taking place, you may find that this is Easy Jet paying lip service to redundancy laws rather than any meaningful consultation with EMA.
I believe Easy Jet has made their decision and that customers simply have to wait for the official email ‘unlucky chump’ email informing us of our limited options. This prevents us from taking any real action to find alternative flights.
Does anyone know what the legal standing is on this? Could we get a full refund now? Could I ask my credit card company to reverse the transaction? I somehow doubt it as the flights may (cat in hells chance) still go ahead.0 -

I am in a similar situation to yourself, I would also be interested to know exactly where we stand on this.
Easyjet just seems to have us over a barrel, we cannot rebook with another airline, we cannot get our money refunded.
I had only booked the flights a week before the announcement.. :mad:0 -
You'll probably find some / many flights from East Midlands will still fly, albeit retimed a bit, and operated on a W-pattern from another base. This happened when they closed the Dortmund base, but they still fly, for example, Luton - Dortmund - Barcelona - Dortmund - Luton using UK crew.0

Four of us have a flight booked from Geneva to EMA on the 30th January 2010. I was wondering if we took out travel insurance now, how and to what extent would this cover us as a norm?
I mean, if Easyjet cancel our flights and the only flights which are available with another company are astronomical, would the insurance company pay out for those tickets?0
