If you look at a US auction listed to be available in the UK it shows the bidding amount in dollars but in smaller paler numbers by the side it shows the approx conversion into sterling.

Unless Angel is listing on Ebay.com in dollars it would have been obvious that it was not US, not that that helps of course, you could put huge font red letters in the auction about it being United Kingdom and you would still get someone assume you are American.

Just as an example I have picked up this auction for a book listed in the US, this is what happens if you browse for available in your country but not listed in your country:
