No internet connection

  • At the moment you cannot deduce that the fault is with laptop.
Further questions need to be answered, such as in other locations how is internet connection made, via wired or wireless.

flossy_splodge - Do you know what an ethernet cable is? (I am not being cheeky when asking this).
Also you may be able to to switch of your wireless adapter from a switch at the front of your laptop.

    Cheers

  • Your normal virus software may overide the usual laptop settings.

For example my Mcafee has wireless network security which has at times malfunctioned & shown no wireless network available.

These guys may want to know the virus software on the laptop.

    No probs. Yes I do.

There is a slider switch at front of laptop which has to be open to connect wirelessly. Is this what you're referring to?
    Thanks for responding.

I installed Avast on it, on the recomendations of this site but have to admit I don't find it at all intuitive and am seriously thinking of going back to Avira. However no reason to think it's not working. Seems to update regularly.
Besides that, I have PCTools firewall on the laptop.
    Does this help?
    Thanks

flossy-splodge has every right to post as many HijackThis logs as she deems fit. The majority of users here will try to assist her with problems encountered and not make veiled insinuations.

Feel free to consult your make believe moderators on above issue. (What on earth is that all about? - L - )

But, with respect, the problem appears to lie with the computer itself, not simply with the domestic wireless network.

And I have every right to speculate, without being accusatory, as to whether somebody who seeks so persistently advice on so many computers belonging to so many other people derives any personal benefit or reward from the time and effort that is given to her, without charge, by kindly souls on here.

I accord respect to those who deserve or earn it - and :A espresso :A is most certainly one of them.

Conversely, and by the same token, I have contempt for those who deserve or earn that.

It was a hilarious thread - and shame it got pulled - but IIRC it wasn't Leopard that was making the mistakes.

I won't name the poster that was - I'm sure they would rather forget all about it...

Sorry Flossy, perhaps someone will help with your problem now!

Short memory you have, when it suits[/QUOTE]

And what is that all about?

What does your apparent ability to divine the temporary IP that an ISP assigns on a Dynamic basis, have to do with "make believe moderators" (sic), hyphenated or otherwise, that you fantasise I believe in?

To waste your time being so cryptic to the direct target of your sarcasm that it defies his comprehension seems remarkably stupid. It merely projects you, yourself, as being a fool.

None of which addresses the point that I made in passing and to which you have taken a thus far unexplained exception.

    fwor,

    Thanks for your alibi. :money:

I never did see that thread; only a subsequent one that lamented its apparently premature demise and cremation. I always wondered what it contained and I certainly never contributed to it!

Seems that it is the fool who has the short memory.

Thank you for your apology, its graciousness and its promptness.

I am happy to accept it without bestowing upon myself any of the divinity to which flossy-splodge alludes in her signature.

(Although the frequency with which she, herself, errs most certainly requires a great deal of divinity from others. )

I'd like to add that it has been my observation that you have been selflessly of tremendous help to others, here, and although I do not walk the world of Windows, myself, I have given you quite a number of "Thanks" on behalf of others who couldn't be bothered to acknowledge your assistance, because I felt you deserved it. So, I was surprised and disappointed to find myself in your gunsights. You know me (well, you should do by now when your memory doesn't fail you :) ); sadly I lack the unfailingly divine charity of Marty J and when I come under attack I go straight and unerringly for the jugular. That's the way I am :o . It has, nevertheless, enabled me to survive, bloodied but intact, the constant knife-fights that take place in this commendably well-moderated sub-forum. I hope any retaliatory graze that I inflicted on you in self-defence will swiftly heal.

Well that indeed needs to be established. Surely fault finding connecting to your own router is the first step though. If connection at home can't be achieved, then there is no point trying to connect while at Starbucks etc.

Certainly was a good laugh that thread and there was absolutely no need for it to be pulled. The 'fool' subsequently remove the fictitious IT Manager title from their MSE profile.
