Help - How do i refund money I havent got

I am a new ebayer seller and therefore all my paypal funds are 'held' by paypal until the buyer has confirmed receipt of the goods, or 45 days have passed

On the 15th aug I received payment for an item, which still hasnt arrived. I have decided to refund and claim from the Royal Mail!.

The buyer obviously wants his money back - even though I havent got it
I was nervous about clicking on unmark as dispatched, as it looks like I never sent

any advice please?

Did you send by a tracked method?
Has the RM stipulated working days passed for the item to be considered lost?
If you are sure you want to refund now, you can do this from paypal. Try logging in there and you will find the details of the transaction along with a refund button.
  • thanks ms crow

its been 15 days, and I have proof of purchase so will make claim

my concern with refunding is that if I dont have the money yet (its 'on hold'), the buyer will receive their money back, and could then choose to claim non receipt and get their money back again.....if you see what I mean :)

I think you can still refund if the money is still on its 21 day hold. I'm sure someone will tell me if i'm wrong but i'm sure i read somewhere that that was the case. So you will be refunding from the original transaction
  • you were right cyber

    cheers
  • sorry just 1 other thing - how do I get back the £3 that ebay have charged me?

You would need to do a mutual agreement to cancel the auction which you can do from the seller dashboard. This means that the buyer has to agree to cancel so you get your final valuation fees back.
  • you just need to go into your 'items sold', - click the drop down menu on the specific item you have refunded, and then click on resolve problem. It will then give you the option to cancel transaction
  • went to post office to get claim form - came home found the proof of purchase and realised I sent by recorded delivery!

i am guesing this means the post office wont refund me now - as they will state they can prove it was delivered

damn - i wish i hadnt refunded so quickly!
  • HERES THE THING - looked up the 13 digit number of royal mail website and it states - we have your item - and quotes a post office address for 18th Aug

assume this means they have never received a signature for it.....

    I shall ring them tomorrow

    confused - i have a migraine!
  • The buyer has 1 week to claim a recorded item and then it will be returned to you so you may still get it back if they don't go claim it. Hopefully they'd be honest enough to repay if they do though. Maybe they just didn't get the card through the door.
