Complaining about a film

Hello. I recently watched a film called The Village and I was disappointed by the ending. Without spoiling the plot for anyone who hasn't seen it, the ending of the film basically means that the film was not about what the viewer believed it to be about and it was not about what the advertising suggested it was about. So I basically paid to hire a film that was meant to be about one thing, and I spent time watching it thinking that it was about that thing, and then it turned out to be about something else. In this situation are there grounds to complain and who would you complain to? I know that it might sound trivial, because it only cost £3 to hire the DVD and I only spent about an hour and a half of my time watching it, but I feel that it is the principle. It is a bit like going into a burger bar and ordering a beef burger, but then getting a chicken burger, you have only lost a couple of pounds, but you have not got what you paid for. I feel that they could have taken some kind of action to reduce the risk of disappointment, without giving the plot away (perhaps a message at the start saying something like "Warning, this is film not about what it originally appears to be about, nor what the advertising suggests it is about").

OP, it's called a "twist" and some people quite like them! :D

I'd stick to Disney then, if you can't handle it.
  • Manoj Nelliyattu Shyamalan is the producer/director. Send him an email outlining the plot you would have liked to have seen, and I am sure he will rewrite it for you. :)

"The Village" is a really old film. I saw it and thought the ending was fab. :j

Have seen some awful films in my time, but never thought about complaining about them. The worst film IMO is "The Bodyguard", terrible acting, no storyline.

Does anyone have the address for Miss Houston's agent, so I can write a letter of complaint?

OP, I recommend you watch "Ice Age", that might be more suitable for you.

Open an account with "Love Film" and then you won't have to sit and mither about £3 for a film you didn't like and you can vent your spleen and write a review about it afterwards.

Could have been worse - you could have seen it at the pictures with the costs of getting there (petrol, wear and tear on the car), extortionate price of sweets and drinks, cost of tickets to get in) AND you would still have hated it.

So by renting it for 3 quid you actually SAVED yourself about £15!

There - do you feel better now?

    PS A tip for the future - read.....some.....reviews.....if.......you.....don't.......want.......to......be ......disappointed...........by ........duff.........films!

Maybe you could get together with this OP and both write to your MPs http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1915673
  • I loved 'The Village' and the twist at the end.

However, I'd already worked out the twist part way through the film, maybe I should complain too, about how the ending was too easy to guess?! :money:
