What type of land do Tesco's buy up? It is industrial land, of pretty much no use to anyone apart from morrisons, sainsburys etc.
    .

Well in our old town it was all the remaining "free land (so no other land could be built on or used)" within the town centre.
  • There was a very fair member on here recently who is now banned for some reason. He was a bear who delivered the bear argument each day, totally different viewpoint to me however i often thanked his well informed posts and intellectual wit. Never once did i have to read the word 'scumbag' or 'evil' in his posts so i do not expect to read them from yours shakerbaby.

How about Brodders? He always delivered the bald truth!

The examples you are using are completely different between the Wilsons and Tesco's.

    Tescos fights business.

    The wilsons fight families.

I don't want to go any further with this to be honest, I simply do not agree with your examples of the wilsons and tesco's being the same kind of business strategy.

Well, let's try another example. The fun of debate is trying to engage people in to potentially thinking in a different way, so let's not give up.

Let's take Barclays. Barclays employ a team of well paid people to ensure that they, as a company, can avoid paying as much tax as possible. Over the years this bending of the law has enabled them to avoid paying millions in taxes, and they will be one of the many corporations that have similar business plans to avoid paying billions of pounds in tax. Tax that could pay for health, education, benefits and all of those other lovely things that benefit communities, families and individuals.

My point is not to argue whether what Barclays does is wrong or right, because that is up for debate. My point is that it is simply a fact that the business plans of the Wilson's, and the way they behave, is no different from a vast amount of large companies that people on this board (including myself) will use every single day. And that's a simple fact, not opinion. So my question was to whether people who shout 'scum' at the Wilsons, have the same level of hatred towards other businesses, or whether it's simply because they want a cheaper house and the Wilson's are a business that stop them doing that.

To be fair, you gave me lots of reasons why the Wilson's are a reprehensible business, and I agree with all of them. But if you think that they are any different from a mass of other businesses out there then you're simply wrong.

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

    Back on topic.

Wilsons selling up. Well hoping to. They were actually selling up last year, but apparently it didn't work out.

My guess is bankrupt this time next year.

    Excellent news.

Cleaver is not saying they are identical.

What he is saying is why do people hold these up as "morally corrupt" but then go on to use just as "morally corrupt" business's.

Basically you either believe in "wrong" or "right".

But "hate the Wilson's, but I love Tesco" is a bit hypocritical if you are doing it on moral grounds
  • I see it's his turn to dress like Rupert the Bear this time. And to think he wants to go on telly...

Please, if there are any producers reading this DO NOT let these people anywhere near a camera!
  • I got an excellent deal on a laptop from Tesco. But all I've got from the Wilsons is their contribution to hpi 'moron capitalism.'

    Simples!

I do hope that is irony.
So you are happy to put the local computer shop out of business for a cheap laptop.
I take it Tesco will fix it for you or help you if you have a problem?

People have a funny take on what wreak family's lives.
  • Of course Mr.B .... Having said that, apparently he is extremely good looking.

i dont know who Mr.B was, but are you the "re-incarnation" of him? Only you seem very complimentary of this guy.

OK I have got it, how to make it simple.

You live in said town (run with it)

Wilsons buy every house. = you and your child can only live in one of their houses.

Tesco(or leading super market) moves in to your town. = Every shop closes, your only choice on local shopping and work is that supermarket.

I think the "moral" outcome of both scenario's are pretty identical for the town.
Neither is good for the town but it seems people will shop in Tesco and spit venom at the Wilson's!

Perhaps because they know deep down they are causing pain to some one else when they get that new gadget "cheaper than anywhere else".
The human cost is most probably perceived as less if you are a participant.

sorry if you thanked before the edit you may not agree with all of it. :)
