It does on the Mac and Linux, but not in Windows.
For what it's worth, as a Mac user, I have the option of ripping from the DVD, but I don't use it. Converting a DVD can take hours. Ripping a DVD takes minutes. Encoding from the DVD just means more wear and tear on the DVD drive, and it keeps the drive in use for a long time too. It doesn't really save any time either as it has to read the DVD anyway as it's encoding (and doing so might even slow the encoding down).

I think for the majority of people, ease of use(ripping directly from DVD) will always be preferable.
Slot the DVD in, press a button and then go off to do something else.0 -

How do you rip the DVD, to which format? Isn't that the problem that some are having?0

The OP has a Video_TS folder left over from making a personal DVD.
If he doesn't have it on his computer any more, all he needs to do is copy it from his DVD.0
