For what it's worth, as a Mac user, I have the option of ripping from the DVD, but I don't use it. Converting a DVD can take hours. Ripping a DVD takes minutes. Encoding from the DVD just means more wear and tear on the DVD drive, and it keeps the drive in use for a long time too. It doesn't really save any time either as it has to read the DVD anyway as it's encoding (and doing so might even slow the encoding down).

I think for the majority of people, ease of use(ripping directly from DVD) will always be preferable.

Slot the DVD in, press a button and then go off to do something else.

Once the DVD is ripped though (which takes but one click), the process is the same.

How do you rip the DVD, to which format? Isn't that the problem that some are having?

The OP has a Video_TS folder left over from making a personal DVD.

If he doesn't have it on his computer any more, all he needs to do is copy it from his DVD.
