talk talk phone and broadband

I have just ordered phone and broadband from Talk Talk.

Ive had a couple of people say its bad and to go to BT. BT is very expensive for both bdb and phone.

Why are people saying that Talk Talk is bad please? Its a contract for 2 years and i dont want to be signed up for that long if theres going to be problems.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • There doesnt seem to be many happy customers.

Maybe I should go to BT for phone and then choose another broadband provider.

    I do want relaible internet.

The people saying you should go to BT are giving you bad advise in my opinion. I know TalkTalk had a lot of problems in the early days but I signed up with them for phone & BB recently (July) and I haven't had any problems at all so far. My sister has also been with them for 6 months and a good friend has been with them for over 18 months and neither of them have had any problems either. Maybe we've all just been lucky. Or maybe, just maybe, TalkTalk have caught up with the backlog and improved since the thread Heinz linked to was started (all of 2 years ago).

Oh and something to bear in mind with BT is that many of their services--like anytime evenings & weekends--are on "rolling" contracts. Meaning that you will incur termination charges if you leave them at any time other than when it's up for renewal. Personally, I think that is downright underhanded and I wouldn't touch BT again unless they were literally my only choice.

  • Personally, I think *any* min term contract is underhand. Aren't talktalk 18 months min. now?

Two years if you want a new line.
  • Scandalous, tbh (especially when you read talktalk's forums, yikes). Who in their right mind would commit to them for 2 years??

I am with TT and had no problems...paying £11.25 line rental and £6.49 for plan, calls free locally and as I have 2 teenagers thats great for them caling mates. I cant fault TT at all, as I am out in the country to get a good broadband speed my only option was either BT or TT, having been with BT and then getting the BB usage capped I paid the disc charge and moved to TT. Fast speeds and cheaper...much cheaper! It is an 18month contract but I do not envisage moving anytime soon.

For every 1 upset customer there will be 10+ that are happy.

    Agree with JLS
Have just moved to Talktalk and am very pleased with the fast line speed and free phone calls in the Essentials package
Slight hiccup about inaccurate address - Postcode checker doesn't seem to like flat numbers!
Took 3 goes with customer services to sort out
The problem being that until your broadband goes live you're not really a customer so different departments sort it out
But got there in the end
  • Well, after singing TalkTalk's praises last week, I've since had a torrid time with them over a fault on my mum's phone line. See here for details.

  • I've been with TalkTalk since March 2007 for phone, and about June/July 2007 for broadband, and I've had no problems. The speed's good (gets up to over 7 Mbps), reliable and the phone line works well.

I doubt I'll ever go back to BT as I don't think much of their prices and both my parents and a friend have BT Home Hubs and they're having problems with them of varying degrees.
