Money saving my a@!*!!!!!!!!

:mad:After thinking about money saving and where i could cut back i decided to try first with my car Insurance. After all, i thought even saving £25 would be a help. Granted i did save money but the stress and the hassle of it all wasnt worth it. My new Car Insurance decided to cancel my Insurance as they said i hadnt disclosed a vandalism claim. But i know i did. Anyway to cut a long story short im still arguing the toss and the phone calls have cost me a fortune not to mention the new Insance company wanted photos of my car and other documents that ive never in a million years been asked for from previous insurers. I wish i had stayed with the RAC. Anyway not to be put off i decided to change by line rental from BT to sky. Wot a joke. Sky then decided to cancel my talk package because they thought i didnt want a phone line even though i had told them i wanted them not BT. They then tell me i shouldnt have cancelled with BT they (SKY) should do it. But i had a rolling contract with BT and had to give them 28days notice. So now ive had to make more phone calls and wait for sky to reinstate my call package before i can transfer the line rental to them. God knows how many calls later and wot for Just to save £1 per month. I wish i had left my Car Insurance and my Phone Line as they were. The stress of saving just £37per year just isnt worth it. Is it me or has anyone had these problems. Because at my next renewals i think im staying with who i was with originally. Im fuming :mad::mad:

I've never had a problem changin insurers or fuel providers, or bank accounts for that matter,I hope you remembered to go through Quidco for an extra £65 cashback on your car insurance.!!

Haven't changed to SKY, we are with Virgin, phoned them up years ago and threatened to move, we have been getting a £25 a month loyalty reduction every MONTH for years now.

Add to that the Quidco cashback, the cashback on our credit card, and the saving from paying the mortgage overpayment into a higher rate savings account, along with childcare vouchers and when we add it all up it's a really tidy sum every year.!!

Stick with it and you'll get the hang of it.:T

  • Infuriating isn't it!

I reckon I could make some money by doing this kind of stuff for other people. You'd just need a good temper
  • Well when ive finished arguing with the companies im going to add up the phone calls and take it off the £37 im supposed to have saved:rolleyes:
  • I am sorry to hear you have had such difficulties. To be honest I have never changed my utilities suppliers as I have prepayment meters and though they are more expensive I like knowing I am not going to be landed with a huge bill I can't afford. I do change my car / home insurance every year, and go through Quidco. I have never had any problems. The only thing that worries me, is that if I have to make a claim, will I remember who I am insured with now?
I guess, including my cashback I have saved about £300 per year.

and to add to your troubles you could well find that other companies will load you when you disclose that you’ve had a policy cancelled
  • Well lucky for me that my new Insurance Company havnt done so. I checked, double checked and triple checked with them that they knew. Which is what i did about the claim in the first place. And i told them the reason why the Insurance was cancelled to and they were ok about it. It was £25 cheaper as well. But a lot of palava tho.

Nice happy ending (assuming the at least one of the checks was in writing!!)
  • tbh, i'm amazed you bothered for 71p a week!!

MSE occasionally has some good tips, but encouraging people to switch for this saving is often a false economy.

There will be those who disagree, but for the sake of those poxy savings, i genuinely believe its better the devil you know.
  • Thats what i think now. The savings dont outweigh the stress of it all. Ive got to ring sky tomorrow to see if theyve changed my line rental lol. At least ile only have one bill instead of two. As for the Insurance well its all sorted and worked out ok.

I thought about changing insurers when I changed cars this year, however Direct Line who I was with covered a couple short term courtesy cars whilst ours was in the garage, a further temporary car given to us for a fortnight by the garage for free, and insured our old car whilst it was sitting in garage awaiting return to the contract hire co. and transferred all cover over onto the new car.

Each request was handled in a matter of minutes, and no charge was made for any of the changes, cover notes faxed through to garages instantly. And dealing with that in middle of school holidays, in garages, with young children was very very easy, and I much appreciate how easy they made it.

And that has bought them at least another year of my undying loyalty. Because that kind of service is definitely worth a few quid extra a year.

Similarly I am with Atlantic for Lecy and Gas, they're not the cheapest, usually towards the cheaper end of the scale. But if you phone them up, they answer the phone, no routing systems, and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly and sort your problems instantly.
