supagard kit from ebay

I was quoted £200 to have sealant applied inside and out to my new hyundai i20. So I bought a supagard kit off ebay for £12 containing a sponge with the sealant on it, interior fabric spray and alloy wheel protector. Am picking the car up next week and am planning to apply it the same day. Does anyone have any tips on applying it as I am feeling a bit nervous about cocking it up? Is it ok to apply it outside, do I need to wash or polish my car first, and how many coats of the fabric stuff should I put on?

  • Just follow the instructions. You can clean an oven or a fridge can't you, or polish a sideboard? There's no difference.
  • cheers never thought of that. will look at my fridge's instructions to fill in the blanks. what a lovely idea..
  • the supagaurd stuff doesnt come with instructions, well the cans have direction of use on them but the sealing sponge aplicator has no instrcutions if its the same as the one i aquired, ive never used it. its more for professional use, like a professional car valeter or the likes.

there is a website called detailing world there might be guys on that forum who could offer a step by step guide on the sealed sponge applicator thingy.
    ...work permit granted!
  • it has very basic instructions but as you say I think it assumes you are a professional valeter and have a certain level of knowledge already. Anyway, thanks for your help. I will try the other forum instead. I'm probably asking for help on the wrong site here (like cleaning a fridge indeed).
  • Since we're having little digs at oneanother, you could try using what limited intelligence you possess to search the internet for the answer, since these kits are common.

Just don't try to do that while breathing, will you?
  • Amazing. An even more pompous post than your last one. I honestly didn't think that was possible.
  • I've just paid £100 to get it applied to my new car I can't be bothered with all the fuss :)

  • I'd probably have done the same. £200 just seemed a bit much. I don't suppose the place you got it done was the London area by any chance?

No Leeds :) Did you try bartering with them as they was originally trying to charge me £299 I said I wasn't that interested until he got down to £100 so I bit his hand off (not literally lol)

As supagard and its many variants are invisible when applied, I'd be very dubious of a £100 treatment. My old boss had a threshhold cost of £200 and if it was negotiated below that, all the new car got was an extra sweep over with the chamois.
Much better to wash and wax your car regularly and you will see dings and chips that need attention.
