Hi Guys,

I'm interested in buying a brand new car and wondered if anyone had bought one and got a really good deal? I'm looking to spend under £7k but want to shop around and get some tips before making any moves!!

Thanx

Go to all your local dealerships and get a test drive in all the cars that meet your budget, take your time - don't be hasseled !
When you have decided which car you like, go to the "Travel and Transport" link on this site and find the best value way of actually buying the car of your dreams.

I can recommend a Toyota Aygo (pronounced I-go). A basic Aygo is around £6200 but you can also get an Aygo + and an Aygo Sport which cost a little more. Road tax is only £40 for the year and you get fabulous mpg :j It's a small and nippy city type car but it goes really well on the open road too. I love mine to bits :D

my next budget car would have to be a Citroen C1 1.4 diesel

    That's great thank you!!

I've been weighing up my options for ages. My current car is all paid for but things are starting to go wrong and I resent paying out for repairs! Also the cheap tax and less fuel is really appealing!! I think buying brand new could save me a hell of a lot and I've saved a fairly big deposit. I think a new car would virtually pay for itself with the savings I could make on MOTs, insurance, fuel, tax etc.

That said I've been trying to reduce the amount of money I waste and this morning I've had a bit of an eye opener! I got an easymobile sim (+£20 free airtime voucher) and I'm gonna get one for my partner - this could potentially save us £30 a month each. Then I contacted my water board and got a "Freddie Frog" toilet water saver..... then I called capital one and did a balance transfer (without card protection) and this morning alone I've potentially saved myself a whopping £918 over the course of 12 months!!! I am seriously chuffed!

I have to go test drive an Aygo now ........

Hi Mandy, welcome to the site. May I recommend you read the following new car (and finance) article written by Martin:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1143803846,31551,

This will give a good head start. For example, broadspeed regularly seem to have the Ford Ka starting at £5000, well below the list price.

To help you choose the best car for your budget, use The AA motoring advice page (choose, best car to fit my budget). Fill in the options and it will tell you the car best suited for you (I've found it very helpful).

    I hope the above helps.

I'll definitely check out honestjohn site. I'd definitely consider nearly new if its gonna save me money and I'm going to take my time to find something really suitable.

IMO, Your best buying a "nearly new" car - ideally 2/3 years old. The depreciation in value of a new car is huge, and there are some used car bargains to be had if you look around enough.

I would also post on the Debt Free board your achievements in saving £900 in the next 12 months to share with others.... well done :-)
