Orange Contract!!

I signed up to an orange contract for 18 months last september and was offered a SONY Ericcsson phone. The phone stopped working in August this year and was advised to send it over to SONY Ericcsson for repairs by orange.

After sending the phone to SONY Ericcsson, I received a letter saying that the phone is not repairable. Now I have another SIX months to go and do not have a phone to use at the moment.

Again, rang Orange and explained the situation and they have said that I will have to purchase any new phone or I can terminate the contract by paying for the remaining six months.

Is there any other options to get a new phone for free???

    Silly question BUT...

Does the phone not have at least 1 years warranty on it ? Do you have Orange care insurance, you might be able to have it replaced under this ?
  • In my opinion....and i've had a dud handset from Orange.

Your first port of call is Orange themselves..( or the place you bought it from )

Had loads of arguements of how they are not responsible for it...But they give in in the end after quoting various items of law at them..

I had a similar problem a while ago but mine was a Samsung phone. I had had it for just over a year when it stopped working. Took it to the shop I bought it from (JAG Communications) to be told that as I had had the phone over a certain amount of time they could send it to Orange to be repaired but I would have to pay the costs... and they couldn't tell me how much it would cost until it had been fixed! No thanks I thought.

So I took it to another phone shop who said they could repair the phone cheaply and it would take around 4 days. 7 days later I phoned them to say where is my phone, and they said they hadn't even looked at it yet! (they also tried to accuse me of getting my phone wet due to the faults I described!) Marched down there and demanded my phone back to be told 'you should just go to Samsung directly as mobile phones have a 2 year warranty'... wish I was told this in the first place lol.

Went on Samsung's website and looked through the warranty section - the man was right, 2 years warranty (if purchased after a certain date). Phoned Samsung, was sent a pre-paid special delivery envelope to send the phone off in along with copy of receipt and description of the faults. They received it on the monday, I had it back on the Thursday good as new!

So my advice is to properly hunt through Sony Ericsson's website, you should find a section all about their products and warranty times etc.

Thanks for all you replies...I dont think Orange will do anything in this regard. Anyway am planning to 'PAY' my remaining contract.

If there is an offer, can anyone let me know the tariff and rental for NOKIA 5800 please???
