yep the jewellery quarter in Birmingham is great as you don't pay the mark up of the middle men and you can get a ring designed if you want something unique.

I'd also recommend buying antique/second hand/at auction as you get great value for money. A lot of good jewellers will have a second hand/antique section and you can easily save 25% on the value of a ring if not more.

Make sure you know what your woman likes though cos we're fussy things ;)

As you live in London, go to Hatton Garden.

That is where I got mine in 1982.

I like some of the stuff at Goldsmiths in Tunbridge Wells and Eastbourne.

Walker and Hall used to be reasonable as well.

    Lin :)
You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

Hi we went to the jewellery quarter Birmingham. I have the perfect ring and we saved lots of money. Do haggle a lot, shop around and spend the best part of the day there it IS worth it.

    Good luck! :)
  • I got the diamonds in my engagement ring from M Vainer Ltd, who are based in Hatton Garden (http://www.touchlondon.co.uk/business/list/bid/37680). Martin was excellent and gave us a good talk about diamonds and must have shown us 100's of the things. I then took my diamonds downstairs to Durrants who are based underneath Martin's offices, who then made a ring up to my own design.

I got exactly the ring I wanted at a fraction of the price of most other places.

I'd recommend having a look round Hatton Gardens anyway, but do read up on the 4 C's before you go and have some idea of what you want and your price range.

My wedding ring was from The Wedding Ring Workshop (http://www.weddingringworkshop.co.uk/) who also make and design engagement rings as well. A friend of mine got her engagement ring from there and is exceedingly happy with it.

Have fun looking at sparkly things :D

If she truly loves you then the size and value of the engagement ring will be immaterial! I suggest you do what I did and buy her a £100 ring (although that was 23 years ago, but it was still cheap then).
If she turns down your proposal because the ring is too small or cheap then you'll at least save yourself lots of hassle later in life :D
You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.
  • Hatton Garden or the Jewellery Quarter. Avoid high street chains they are such a rip off.

We used Hallmark Jewellers, Vyse St, in the Jewellery Quarter.

I would shop around if you have time and if you go to the JQ you can haggle the price and get a ring designed, which is what we did.

    Good Luck ! :)

We got my ring from JE Marlow in the Birmingham Jewellery Quarter. got my wedding ring from there too as it was made to fit round my engagement ring. They said any time we were passing they will check both rings and polish for us.
