My O/H is asthmatic and rang me a few weeks ago - 'Will you go and get me some tamiflu?' For someone who works in the NHS, I was surprised at his optimism, and belief that I could acquire such a thing for him without his help :rotfl:

In no particular order, he went to the online symptom checker, rang NHS direct, and ultimately ended up speaking to his GP, who was happy to say that it didn't sound like he had flu, but recommended some changes to his inhaler use.
    My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j

If OP can get down the job centre to sign on without so much hassle, why can't you pick up some Tamiflu so easily?

I could walk to jobcentre in 5 minutes, i doubt i could make a 13 mile hike across city though and then 13 miles back.

Please don't try to pick at what i have said, i have told the truth and if you don't think i did fair enough, i will not go explaining everything that has already been said already in the post again and again, then you would all be worse than the system making me go round in circles.
    Owed out = lots.

Its a long way, tomorrow i will hop the metro and not pay and if i get caught i will plead emergency, it is the only thing i can think of to getting hold of it.

    Cheers.

  • If you have flu you won't be capable of "hopping on the metro".

If you think you may have swine flu, you shouldn't be exposing others to your virus.

Tamiflu won't be delivered to you. It isn't really necessary anyway, it will not make you any better, but might reduce the length of time you are poorly. Slightly. It also might give you side effects.

Just stay at home, take paracetamol & fluids and it will go away. And don't go round spreading your germs to all & sundry!

    Get well soon.

The NHS have a set up with the red cross to get tamiflu to people who dont have flu friends

Call the free number 0800 1 513 513 *national helpline number ) and see if you can get them to send someone over

They should help you as you are in a high risk group

I did phone them, that is who reccomended me to the primary care trust, who in turn said they do not deliver. This was the whole purpose of my rant.

If its true you can't walk with swine flu then i might not have it as i can walk, saying this it is tiring and i feel sorry for old people who might have the same situation as this as well, lucky i am only in my30's not my 80's.

  • It sounds like the OP has a bad cold like the one that is doing the rounds at the moment, i have just got over it myself.

I have had the flu once in my life, and the first sign was a very high temperature, i was so hot that i had to lay on my stone kitchen floor to try and cool down.

I then went to bed, and didn't move for a week, and when i eventually did feel well enough to get out of bed, i was walking around like an old woman for at least 2 weeks, it felt like the inside of my bones were on fire.

Generally if you can make phonecalls, and even consider walking 5 minutes to the jobcentre, you have a bad cold, and just need to keep hydrated, and take paracetamol if required.

There is not much else you can do expect let it run it's course. Get well soon.
  • I have had swine flu, I didn't have a cold with it but i did have vomiting, upset stomach high temperature and the usual flu symptoms. I also have an underlying condition but I didn't go for the Tamiflu as it only shortens it by one day and is not guaranteed to do anything. I was ill for a good 2 weeks going on for 3, but no cold. Plus there is no way I could have got out of bed to take a trip down to my doctors.
Wow, I got 3 *, when did that happen :j:T:p

I got out of bed to go to the bathroom and fell over, I had to be helped there. If you have swine flu then you wouldn't have been able to get to you doctors or had the patience to spend so much time on the phone, I switched mine off as it was too much energy to answer it.

I do hope you don't have swine flu as it really knocked me off my feet. Hope you feel better soon.

  • If you have a cold there's no point taking an antiviral like Tamiflu. I guess it might make you feel worse that's all.

However if your well enough to post lucidly on an internet forum you don't need to worry. If you had flu you'd be struggling to turn the PC on.
