Best for the price - take a look at the ones for the PS3 or Xbox. There's an official Sony PS3 HDMI cable you can get for around £15 and it's really quite good.

this is the one i bought (though it was cheaper then)
    seems well made
the cable has a fabric braiding on it as well which makes it feel 'sturdy'

    however the 2nd review..........................
I only use the cable occasionaly to link my laptop up to my TV. So far I have not had any problems. Picture quality is what you would expect from a cheap cable like this one. It isn't bad but I have seen a lot better. Purely coz I have used Belkin's £100 HDMI cable capable of the next step to 1680p. But its like a car... you pay £8000 for a skoda and you get a car that goes. You pay £80,000 for an Aston Martin and you get a great car. Don't expect miracles from this cable but then you can't for the price.

I nearly bought one of those XO Platinum cables for £6.99 from playtrade, then i did a bit of digging and found that they were bad copies of the HD Cable platinum range at hdcable.co.uk who were trying to get them stopped

  • It's a digital signal. So long as it goes in one end and comes out of the other theres no difference between a £1 cable and a £100 cable. I'm willing to accept that longer cables may be better if higher quality due to possible data skew losses but anything else is pure baloney.

Mine are 1.5M in length, gold plated and cost £2.99 from an eBay seller. Picture is 100% flawless on my PS3 blu-ray discs and 40" Sony Bravia HDTV.

But you all carry believing what you want to believe.

  • Ah, not this old chestnut. As already pointed out expensive HDMI cables are a waste of time. The cable either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't work the effect will be obvious (on any TV). Quite frankly I find the idea that an expensive cable will make the picture better in some subtle way is ridiculous. I have never seen any convincing evidence or technical reason why an expensive cable would bring about any improvement.

Don't loose sight of what I was trying to say....I, as in MY opinion, thought it was a great "quality" cable for the price of a curry for 2 (lets not get into an argument about the cost of a curry now!) I didn't say other cables were cr#p....I didn't say others wouldn't work as well and I didn't say it was the cheapest , I just said it was made really well and I wanted to share a "good buy" with you guys.....believe me, I had no idea that I would have been lighting the touch paper!!!!

Thanks for taking the time to rip me apart

    to a point.
eg i used a cheap 7 day shop HDMI cable on the PS3 and it wouldnt allow me to select 1080p
no end of configuration changes were trierd but to no avail
a 1.3B certified cable was bought and works fine.(under a tenner)
the cheaper cable works but just didnt seem to allow the bandwidth for full 1080p

It's simply due to the fact that HDMI devices are manufactured to adhere to various versions of the specification e.g. 1.0, 1.2, or 1.3a similar to USB 1.0, 1.1 & 2.0.

Read all about the usable clock rates of the different version here

No they are not equal but it depends on exactly what use they being put to, if any difference can be seen - more here.
