  • I can't recommend anyone, but I can definitely recommend that you avoid cpw at all costs - unless you want to be without your phone for weeks on end, enjoy multiple trips to their branches and would prefer a phone which virtually always ends up in a worse state than it was at the start!
  • really!? Thanks for the tip much appreciated mj a work colleague suggested I repair it myself...

Screens are pretty easy to replace on Nokia phones.

If you cant do it yourself (and I would not recommend people do it unless they have had some experience of opening such devices and are aware of the pitfalls) - contact Nokia Support.

Its not going to be under warranty (even if less than year old, screen damage is likely to be user fault) but they will do the work for you - I am guessing something around £60-£70 to do it.

Go to nokia.co.uk and their support is pretty good - you send it to them freepost and it comes back repaired if you agree to their quote.
  • Thanks OneADay funnily enough said work colleague said to get a new display direct from Nokia didnt realise they could fit it...?

    thanks again

You can get a screen from nokia or from ebay to be honest (just have to be careful with ebay - standard stuff). Replacing it is not tricky as I said before - its really your choice.

Nokia repair things - you post to them, they fix if you agree to pay or if its under warranty its free (other than self imposed damage).

The thing to bear in mind is that you assume its screen only damaged, might be something else.

Whilst CPW might get bad press, they are offical repair centre for Nokia. Worth just popping into store, leave the phone with them and see what they say. At least you can find out what the exact problem is and should not cost you anything if you decide to go elsewhere.
  • ah thanks my dad is pretty handy with this kind of stuff he's a retired engineer and does watch repairs etc i'll get him to have a look i'm sure he'll have the star/torx driver bits if not I may get CPW to appraise it.
I've never actually dealt with them i'v been with t-mobile for last 10 years I just ring them up normally if I have any probs.

many thanks again great info and advice very much appreciated will let you know how it goes

    cheers

  • well having now sat on the back up phone I had (a Nokia 6300) last week wrecking that screen too I decided to sort the N79 out.
I did take a bit of a chance and got a ridiculously cheap lcd display (a tenner compared to the £30 for a genuine Nokia one, as £££'s a bit tight) yes off ebay :o
I spent £1.95 on a Nokia srt-6 style tool and a quick look on youtube got it all sorted in about 10 mins.
Hopefully the non oe screen will have a bit of longevity...?

    thanks again
