HTC Magic or Samsung Jet?

Hi

I have been offered a really good deal by Vodafone based on these 2 handsets

300 mins (enough for me)
unlimited text
unlimited internet
? mth contract
£25 per month (reckon i can get it down to £20 as per recent deal on HDUK)

Would really have liked the HTC Hero but that was a no go.

Any thoughts on the handsets?

thanks

Considering I negotiated 1500 mins, unltd landlines and mobile internet plus 500 texts for £27/m with a free magic for 18 months, you can do much better.

I can recommend the magic. Wife loves it, it's slick, easy to use and very customisable. Good range of free and paid apps too. The jet won't have as much app support. Though it will have a better camera than the magic.

  • Thanks.

300 mins would be enough for me, reckon i could have got it down to £20/month on those mins with unlimited text and internet.

I had the Hero recommended to me, does anyone know what the difference between that and the Magic is please?

The hero has a 5mp camera compared to the magics 3mp. It also has a slightly better homescreen customization, as there are 7 instead of the 3 with magic. Other than that, the hero has a teflon backing and easy clean smudge resistant screen, although the trackball is nicer on the magic.

I am using my hero now actually, my wife has the magic. If you are getting the magic for cheap, i'd say stick with it, but try and get it for less than 20/m. Have you asked for your pac code? You will be offered better deals.

    Really, less than £20!

thanks for all of the info. I am more of a cheapskate than a techno geek so thinking the Magic for £20 or less is the deal for me.

if you get the magic you can always download the hero rom onto it, there are how 2 videos on you tube i believe, this will give you almost all the software advantages that the hero has. I was also looking for the hero when i upgrade on vodafone but they do not do it directly so think it will be the magic for me
  • Thanks guys

    Its being delivered tomorrow :j

My PAC took less than 1 hour to come through and then about 10 mins on the phone to Vodafone :D

    HTC Magic
    600 mins
    unlimited texts
    unlimited internet (fair useage)
    18 months
£20 per month for first 15 months and £35 after.

But i can upgrade at 16 months to get the monthly cost back down so effectively £21 ish per month for 16 months.

    I reckon that's alright :)

That's more like it! Well done. ;)

You will really enjoy the Magic. As for putting a Hero ROM on it, I would advise against it as it is a Vodafone branded Magic, and not unbranded.

The Vodafone branded magic has approximately 90MB less RAM than the unbranded version, and while this doesn't really affect the speed of the UI that Vodafone has optimised to the Magic, trying to run the Hero ROM with 90MB less RAM compared to the real Hero will result in a slightly laggier experience.

Plus a word of advice, some HTC handsets screen tend to suffer from dead/burnt pixels. The best way to look for them is to look at the screen while it is on but with a dark background (eg when the phone is loading up) and notice any small bright greeny/red pixels/dots shining through as opposed to being the colour of the surrounding background.

If you find any in your screen, return it for an exchange as my wife did.
