"Blackout Britain warning as Government predicts severe power shortages within a year
Britain faces the first widespread power blackouts since the 1970s(*) because of looming energy shortages, Government documents reveal.
There are also fears of huge electricity and gas price rises as Britain is held to ransom by such foreign energy producers as Russia. Experts have been warning for years that Britain is running out of power, with some predicting the blackouts could be serious enough to spark civil disorder."
What a shame Labour sold off most of BNFL and their skilled engineers to Toshiba and British Energy plc to EDF.

The only Euro peeps with the knowledge to build Nuclear are the French. No wonder the EU quickly banned coal and oil-fired stations - the French can now charge what they like to build us our stations and what ever they can get away with for the 'lecky produced. EDF have UK plc over a barrel

##Things can only get better.## :rotfl:

(*) Yep, that was when Labour were last 'running' the country. Running it into the ground, that is.

The Government is forecasting that by 2017 there will be power cuts of around 3,000 megawatt hours per year - the equivalent of the whole of Nottingham being without electricity for a day.
"The shortage of supplies will hit the equivalent of many as 16 million families for at least one hour during the year, it is forecast"

I shall be praying, in the spirit of Dunkirk and everything else that made this great country, that come 2017, will be when I'm tucked up in bed and fast asleep (with or without mewbie) so that I shan't even notice that I woulda bin outta luck if I'd wanted to get up and brew meself a warm cup of Horlicks.

has the journalist even thought about this article??

what about the refineries, office blocks, factories etc who would be more severely impacted by these cut-outs??

What a shame this thread was even started.

Sigh . . . it's just all so predictable, isnt it?

The expected gap of 3,000 megawatt hours a year could mean an hour-long power cut for 16million people simultaneously on a winter evening.

Sorry, is this one hour long powercut per year? Can we coordinate it for the hour that X-Factor is on on Saturday evening? Brits could all read a book by candlelight or have a chat instead.

Sounds rather delightful, we should do it weekly.

Is this another swinger invitation Mrs Rates? I told you last time, I'm rubbish with subtle gestures like dangling car keys and innuendo. You're better just asking outright.

Please No. The X-Factor is my pass to the pub on Saturday nights. Without this show the mrs will be on my case to do something "together".

But the other day you were saying you were a 43 year old in mind? 43 year old men often seem to me masters of innuendo. (and smut.) I think mewbie is 44.
