Feeling very down

Please talk to someone now and don't leave it any longer. As many others have pointed out, your partner must see a doctor if he's feeling suicidal.
I'm in debt crisis and I really didn't want to talk to anyone about it. However, I finally took the bull by the horns and contacted CCCS. They couldn't have been better at putting my mind at rest and making me see that it's only money. It may be a mess, but it's only money and there are plenty of ways to resolve your issues.
Re NTL TV & Phone package. I'm with NTL and I decided that I couldn't afford my monthly payments and wanted to reduce them. I phoned NTL and told them I wanted to close my account. They then put me through to their Retention Dept (called such cos they want to keep you with them). They offered me a new deal and I told them it was still too much and after a lot of haggling I agreed to their best deal which was less than half my original monthly payments! It's really worth a try and you feel great at the end of it all cos you've got yourself a much better deal. If they dig their heels in and don't reduce the payment, just say you'll think about it and will ring them back with your decision. That way, you haven't lost anything.
Good luck, chin up and all that. We're all with you all the way.

If you husband is at Uni has he taken all student loan available? If so has he seen if there is a hardship fund?
I have just completed a three year degree, and would agree as a full time mum and working part time it is a struggle. I had a spell of being on anti-depressants during this time and it really helped me to cope. Tell him to hang in there as it will be worth it in the end.
Has he looked at any grants from organisations or companies that may be interested in funding his final year? It depends on what he is doing.
Again don't forget to claim coucnil tax benefit as someonelse stated above and if you do get your job sorted see if they do childcare vouchers for your nursery.
Best of luck and chin up0 -

Have you tried applying for housing benefit and council tax benefit. I saw on the other thread that you are planning to sell the house. If you do this and have more than £8,000 in savings you wouldn't be eligible for benefits (the limit might be higher for couples). Can savings also affect tax credits?
Would it be an option to release some of the equity in the house to pay off the most expensive debts . I know consolidating isn't the best idea but if it gets your debts down to a managable size for when your income starts again.
Have your employers told you when you will be starting?0 -
The uni should have a hardship funds you could try them. Most will be a one off and it might not have to be paid back..
Also any students union worth its salt will have advisors to help your husband mentally and physically and financially.
He must also talk to his tutor about this as well. As it will show in the grades he gets in his course work.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and suggestions.
OH and I went to the doctors yesterday and he has prescribed anti depressants to my husband. Initial side effects quite unpleasant, but hopefully these will pass and he will feel better soon. Good to be told it is treatable and not just due to circumstances.
My new job starts on Monday, which is a big relief for us both, as I have not worked since end March. I even get paid on 20th May, which is fab!!!
We are going to go ahead and sell the house to clear all debts, and then rent for a year until we find our feet and take stock of what we want to do. Gives OH time to finish Uni and me to settle into work and generate bonuses. We can't sell until mid September due to mortgage tie in (£6500 penalty!!!!! )
I am actually quite excited about the prospect of our Debt free day now being in September 2007 rather than some distant horizon ... and the idea of no stress over money is a lovely thought. Hopefully by becoming the best money saver ever, we will have a happy future ahead.

Awww, glad you're feeling a bit better, when I read your post I did feel for you.
Good thing about going to the doc's, it will take a couple of weeks for the tablets to kick in but persevere with it as it does make a difference. I can vouch for that.
Good luck with the job on Monday! Bet that's a relief.
I'm really pleased to read your positive post, and all this in just a few days!!
