Found a lump...

  • He's a lovely boy. Thought I'd share my story about our old Tom ( now sadly gone a long time ago ). He developed a lump on his neck and it turned out to be cancerous. He had an operation to remove it but the Vet was not optimistic. Anyway he made a great recovery and three years later we took him back with an eye infection. A new Vet kept looking at his notes then at him again, in amazement. She could not believe it was the same cat and kept asking us if we were sure he was the same cat ( as if we wouldn't know!). So even if it is the dreaded cancer the outcome is not always negative. Good luck!

    Hey everyone...thanks for your thoughts

Well Timmy went to the vet today, he went on the bus, which he seemed to enjoy funnily enough. The vet managed to get a look down inside his mouth and he has a red, ulcerated mass, it was slightly bleeding too, probably aggravated by his teeth. All other vitals are ok - temperature, lymph nodes, heart beat, no alarming sounds from the stethoscope etc...Erm, and he needs to go on a diet, Mummy has been over-feeding...

So, the vet said it could just be an infection or it could be something worse - she can not tell just from looking at it. Timmy is on anti-biotics for the next week or so to clear up any infection, and on Tuesday next week he has a biopsy on the lump if it is still present after the course of ABs. He will also have a chest x-ray as he had a couple of coughing fits lately in the middle of the night - the vet explained if it was the Big C that she would want to check the chest area for signs of spread.

So i'll just keep an eye on the old boy for the next few days - he is completely normal and fine despite the lump, so if he does start to decline it will be easy to spot.

    Thanks again xxx
  • Paws crossed it's the infection.:heart2:

  • Glad he enjoyed the bus ride! They are funny creatures :-)

Let's hope its just an infection, guess it is a case of wait and see for the time being - is he still eating ok Lowis?
  • Fingers crossed it's an infection. I wouldv'e thought if it were more sinister, his vitals would indicate it. As for over feeding, I think it's getting quite popular to put animals on strict diets. I'm always told my kitty is over weight & needs to go on a diet. They even managed to persuade me into the Hills r/d diet regime. The cat became so miserable, that I quit the diet and reverted back to her regular eating, just cut out the extra treats. She is still fit & healthy, except for the issues I already know about.

hey FC, yes he seems absolutely normal in every other respect...and he is fat for a siamese, which is bad, but in this instance good, i would be very scared if he was skinny with that lump in his mouth!
