Found a lump...

Found a lump on my boy Timmy yesterday...on his cheek, near the jaw (see pic below). Having lost a cat to cancer last year I am paranoid about cancers now.

I am hoping it is a cyst or abcess or something harmless though. The lump feels very fixed, hard and part of the jaw i.e. not like a cyst that you can usually move around under the skin. I have of course been thinking the worst and reading up about oral cancers in cats...does anyone have any experience of this?

We have a vet appointment for tomorrow...please wish us luck xxx

thanks rachiee - he is an indoor cat, and quite old so he doesn't really get going fast enough to cause a nasty bump. i felt inside his mouth last night and the lump in located between is jaw and the skin of his cheek, kind of where they join...it is quite hard too, not like a 'bump' lump...fingers crossed though x

thanks Errata, yes, i do too. have been reading up about feline oral cancer today so i know what the vet is talking about should it be the worst outcome. i had a cat who had lymphoma not so long ago so i am no stranger to this horrid illness now...so i kind of know what to expect if it is this horrid, cruel illness.

  • good luck, let us know how you get on - wonder if it could be a tooth abcess? fingers crossed for you!
  • Hope you & Timmy get good news. My 16yr old kitty has a few lumps under her chin. Some feel like regular spots, but 1 is about the size of a fingernail. I have touched them & she dosen't seem too bothered by it. I think these are little cysts, so will only take her to the vets if they get any bigger.

Does it feel hard like a pea. I too had one on my jaw. Turned out to be my glands which can swell up at anytime due to common colds and things like that. Sure everything will be fine. Good luck
