Where on earth am I going to get 22mm plywood?

As for the tiler, I can't wait unfortunately. I have no bath/shower at all just now and only one downstairs loo between 5 of us. I have to get the floor laid and the shower/bath wall at least, so I can get the wc back in action and we can wash properly. The builder's bucket has rapidly lost it's novelty factor.
This might be one solution (scroll down to Question of the Day). Well, it served it's purpose for the builders :rotfl: .
The lads who are doing the plumbing have said they tile too, so fingers crossed they take the same care with the tiling as they do the plumbing.
Our builders said that too when they were ready for the bathroom and en suite to be tiled but couldn't wait for our son to fit us in. All I will say is make sure they put the adhesive on the wall and not butter the back of the tiles  .0 -

I eagerly looked at the link in the hope it would be an aswer to my washing problems. :rotfl:
I've squatted over many an unclean public loo in my time but I don't think squatting over that would be an option tbh.Men have it much easier in this kind of situation.

Your lucky to have a useable bog at all! I had to make do with an old PVA PeeVA pot on a couple of days!
Do you really need to get rid of the chipboard? I'm not sure myself but i'd be looking at boarding on top of the original floor - but solve the squeaks first (I'm a strong believer these days in silicone spray (also a more expensive 3-in-1 equivalent) to fix squeaks!).0 -

Lol andy....at least you could 'point and do' if you get my meaning. :rotfl:We females don't have the same ability.
At the risk of asking a daft question.....how is a silicone spray going to help stop the chipboard from creaking? It's not rubbing against anything.....it's in the middle of a board.
This is beginning to cause some tension now between OH and I.......he syas just to put down 18mm ply and be done....but loads of tilers have said wait for the 25mm. I'm stuck in the middle and need to sort this out today. Either way the old floor will have to come up.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Ahh i missed the bit that it's in the middle of the board? Are you sure? Maybe the board has split? My old room at my parents house has chipboard floors but i think it was nailed rather than screwed and makes alot of creaking - not so much when you stand on the joints but in the middle of the boards. If you can get the 25mm and have to wait then use that and take their advice.
Everything i want always seems impossible to buy too! Like the MDF for our cabinets..we specifically wanted 15mm as we didn't feel 12 mm was thick enough and 18mm was too thick My Dad bought it from his local timber merchants in the end.
My latest screw-up is i'm boxing in the pipes beneath my towel rail with 6mm MDF with a removeable panel...forgot that 6mm wouldn't be thick enough for the tiny screws that hold the fixings on so now i'm having to improvise and add packing out so the screws don't protrude. Tried filing down a screw and cutting an end off but they are far too small to deal with! Anyone else would probably admit defeat and just stick it on with no more nails !

18mm ply is enough if the joist centres are 14-16 inches or less (However I#d still recommend overboarding). If the joist centre is greater than this you'll need a minimum 22mm and preferably 25mm, neither of which will require overboarding.

I've just ordered the 25mm stuff, it's coming this afternoon. The woman on the phone commented about the weight of the boards so I'm now really worried about my joists. My house is a timber framed stud wall and plasterboard job, please tell me my floor isn't going to collapse under the 25mm weight. _pale_
I realise I'm probably being stupid but I am still concerned.
4 sheets just cost me £200!Herman - MP for all!0 -

Compared to the weight of a bath full of water with a person sat in it, the plywood panel weight would be nothing. It's not even a consideration.
The woman was commenting on the weight for handling purposes....i.e. humping it up the stairs.0 -

Thanks Alan. I never used to worry so much, this refurb has made me a fruitcake now.
Did I mention we had a new Carronite bath that's quite weighty too?:D
