Unfair Clause? Admin charge for changing energy supplier

I know the changing energy supplier bit has come up before, but is an admin charge of £75 related to a tenant changing the energy supplier also unfair? Seems to me it's designed to remove choice. Here is the thread this question arose from, if anyone has a minute to respond.
Thanks!

  • That is unfair. If i move into somehwere I expect to be able to choose the cheapest provider for my utilities. After all it is ME who is paying for it.
  • I think you would have to ask Shelter that, but it does seem an unfair term.

However, how would the LA/LL know the tenant had changed providers? I assume it is the tenant that pays the bills and the suppliers aren't on fixed rates?

Just change providers back again before they move out and make sure that they are not locked into a contract. Oh and don't forget to use www.topcashback.co.uk to change suppliers and get cashback.
RENTING? Have you checked to see that your landlord has permission from their mortgage lender to rent the property? If not, you could be thrown out with very little notice.

The guess on the other thread was that the OP's letting agent is getting a kickback so they'd know the supplier had been changed. It never ceases to amaze me how supposedly professional organisations can flout the law.
