  • It means that there is only BT equipment at your exchange and you are limited to providers who use that equipment to sell you broadband via BT.
No LLU means there is no equipment at your exchange installed by other providers such as O2, Talk Talk etc. which can usually offer cheaper broadband and provide some sort of competition to BT.
I am in the same situation, being rural, where there is no chance (probably ever) of LLU providers at my exchange due to small potential customer base.
Someone else will probably explain more fully than I have!

Does that mean i should just go to BT then - how annoying - not likely that its going to change either - its rural location

No, it doesn't mean that you have to go with BT. It just means that you have to use ISPs who use BT lines.

So you can still shop around.

You are not restricted to using BT as your ISP, most service providers will be able to supply you, its just that they will lease capacity from BT to do so.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Which, as the ISPs are charged by BT, means that so will you be and the cheapest deals around will probably not be available to you. However, best advice is to shop around on those that "sam" says can be had.

There is however some good news. BT are enabling their exchanges for 21CN in many rural areas before built-up urban areas. You may have access to ADSL 2+ from a whole range of providers on BT's WBC infrastructure. This choice in itself should lead to lower prices and competition.
