Well, she's got a point.....there does seem to be a condition to every conceivable issue....the more conditions the more excuses people can make.

There is a condition to every conceivable issue: I have spent twenty years studying the human body right down to the genetic level, and I am constantly amazed a lot more doesn't go wrong. I've already supplied a figure of 80%, backed up by research, which does not include conditions such as requiring glasses as this would not affect your ability to do physical activity.

Excuses for what: Mrsalice going to the toilet on shift a few times in her present employment?

  • Hiya,
thank you for all the replies, I have been reading. Couldn't log in so set up another account!

To everyone whose posted about not being able to hold it for 3 hours etc etc, that is not the point. Early in the morning, when it's cold sometimes you just have to go for a wee! And I don't go every week, I prob go about once every other month! And, to clarify, by doctors recommendations I've been told to drink more water than usual, especially if I've done any exercise or anything strenuous. I cycle to work and my job frequently involves carrying heavy flatpack furniture boxes.

My manager is back from holiday so I will be speaking to him at the weekend about this issue. It is degreading to 'ask permission' like somebody above stated. Considering it wasn't just a random member of staff I told, there was me, this memeber of staff, the team leader and the manager working. So it's not like they have to ask a load of people to find where I have got to.

as I said before mrsalice - get it clarified by HR - its reasonable to inform another member of staff when you need toilet break. most firms i worked for accept you have to nip to loo but if you ask member of staff to cover for you its ok. some been totally unreasonable - see previous posts! - I think the manager who spoke to you was 'out of order' . but its up to you how far you want to take it! let us know please what happens - its really frustrating when a thread ends and you dont know whats happened!!!!!! good luck
  • Sorry guys had to have a little giggle at the in depth disscussion of going for a wee above :D

However it is a serious matter and I feel that there is a habit in retail to micro manage staff, unnecessarily and to the point where it becomes degrading. OP make sure you stand up for yourself and make sure that any decisions that comes out of this meeting are communicated to the rest of the staff.

I have just received a new contract for my job and although I am sure it is perfectly lawful it is the most unfair contract I think I have ever read, unfortunately I need the job and have little choice but to sign it, and I suspect that's why the company can get away with unpaid overtime for cashing up, and making overtime compulsory.

Make sure you stand up for yourself!

Is there not a tannoy system that you can use to announce to the team leader you need to go pee, so could they come to the counter to grant you permission?

I would ignore them. What's the worst that can happen? If they try and discipline you, they will end up looking like a complete idiot!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
