    I've been Money Tipped!
If it's a job where the customers can see you and if you're not too embarrassed, just wet yourself. Once the manager sees that the customers can all see that you've wet yourself, he'll start thinking it gives a better impression if you're dry!

But like I say, only if you're not too embarrassed to do it. (I'm not, but I have a bit of a dodgy bladder sometimes, so it happens from time to time anyway.)

You may not have any sense of embarrassment but I suggest that's not something to be overly proud of. There are ways to deal with a "dodgy bladder" that don't involve peeing your pants:mad: in public. I suggest you do a little research rather than continuing to subject your colleagues to your bodily functions.

Just in case you're not clear on my opinion.... your suggestion is petty, stupid and would not serve the original poster well in her daily relationship with her manager!

god thats awful, what a !!!! of a manager!

In our place we can go when we want to the toilet and nip to get a quick drink too outside of our breaks.

Shop managers are usually up them selves to compensate for the poor pay they receive.

I've seen some strange responses on here but this one does take things slightly too far.

OP - just call HR and ask them for advice on the company procedure.

    Or

    P1ss your pants.

    You decide.

[I was joking about the second option]
  • Well it's going to happen anyway sooner or later if she isn't allowed to go when she needs to, so it might as well be when she's prepared for it. We're not talking a situation here where she just fancies a break, we're talking where she /needs/ to go. She made it clear she was talking about when it was urgent and she didn't have time to wait for the manager.

Incidentally, short of catheterisation, there's not much that works for a sudden total voiding of the bladder. Even specialised sanitary products can easily overflow.

No, it's not going to happen sooner or later. Because she will sort it out, by speaking to HR and finding out what the company procedure is.

Thanks for all the replies! I'm just going to ask for a meeting with the main store manager on sunday when he's back in. I am fed up of the constant harassment. I've worked there 7 years, used to run the shop floor when I worked all weekend under different management a few years ago and I NEVER treated anyone like a child and with such disrespect.

Another example just so you know how seriously immature and unprofessional this team leader and sales manager are:
A few weeks ago I had 2 weeks off. The first week I went in and said I couldn't make my shift Sunday (I've never ever had a sick day under this new manager whose been there since Mar 08) because of family problems that I was unable to explain there and then. I actually physically couldn't get the words out. But I did explain the next week. The following Sat my Nan was rushed to hospital and I rang the store after it closed and explained my nan was ill and we were on our way to see her in hospital and that it was serious.
I was signed off at my main job for 2 weeks but returned to this 3 hour one the following sunday. The sales manager asked first thing if my nan was ok and I said no she passed away the previous weekend and I just wanted to get on with things and be left alone for the day.
Half hour later this stupid !!!!! team leader came up to me with the back to work forms, one sayin 48 hour sickness bug and the other gran very ill. She shoved them in my face and went can you sign this in her really high loud patronizing voice. Then she went um no actually this says you weren't ill yourself, I duno SO WAS YOU ACTUALLY ILL? Who was ill, if you weren't ill you don't need to sign oh I duno, can you sign it. Throughout all of this I didn't say a word and she just carried on making a !!!! of herself.

I will definitely be having a meeting with the manger sunday about all of this. Writing it down here as just annoyed the hell out of me. If this harassment and disrespect continues I will take things much much further.

So, were you ill with a sickness bug, or did you have family problems?

And were you signed off by a doctor, as if so, I don't know if you should have been working anyway...?

To be fair, if company policy dictates she has to fill in a return to work form, then she has to do it! You may well not want to talk to anyone all day, but you can't pick and choose which bits of the job you do!

As for the toilet breaks; I think you are maybe not helping the situation.

You know what you are supposed to do and yet you are persistantly doing your own thing. I refuse to believe a healthy adult cannot predict they may need the toilet in enough time to notify the relevent person. You are working with them for goodness sake!!

Be honest - you're making a stand here aren't you? You've got a bee in your bonnet about this person and you are refusing to play ball - perhaps because you feel you would be better at the job (being the best person there and all) and resent a younger person doing it.

    That's my thoughts anyway.

If you carry one aggravating the situation, you are in danger of making your complaint look petty!
  • I was never ill, sorry I should have said I don't know why thye put that on the first form. It was always family problems.
I wasn't signed off by a doc, at my main job they said take 2 weeks off because I was going back and forwards to my nans in the week which is 2 hours each way to sort things out and because they had enough cover. My weekend job, the one I'm on about is only 3 hours on sunday morning. The nature of where I work in store is that I do go in and work by myself, I cover one department out of 3 and my area is where you only need one person and only get a few customers. The rest of the time you have to sort through things and other stuff. Other people come and talk to you on there which is why I said I wanted to be left in peace.

I wasn't moaning about having to fill a form in. A back to work meeting should be conducted properly if that's what it is. I had one at my main job. Your supposed to tell your manager what the problem is/was, discuss any issues and sign to say your ok to go back so you can't sue them. To have an immature kid who doesn't have any idea what she's doing shove it in your face when your busy is totally inappropriate. Your not meant to just sign those things like that, they have decided to have this back to work meeting procedure, and they are the ones not dong it correctly.

And it's got absolutely nothing to do with her age or jealousy at all and I'm offended that that's the assumption. I didn't ever want her job, I don't do enough hours for the position so that's not the issue. Its not her age either, it's her immaturity. Its poor management to put her in that role, and then not train her, and then not act on people's complaints of patronizing and harassment.

And I never mentioned anything about not knowing when I needed the toilet, or having problems with that. I was asking what the general standard rules are and other posters came up with those suggestions.

I do do my own thing, because I've done that for 7 years and that is what I'm supposed to do at the area of the store I work at! That is why I work there. If I'm out using my own initiative and cleaning the shop floor, this team leader shouts across things like 'can you go and pick that bit of rubbish up' I was already doing it!! It's harassment
  • While I empathise with needing the loo, you have constantly referred to your team leader as 'immature kid' and mentioned that you have worked there 7 years. You say it's got nothing to with age but you did bring your age compared to the team leader in the discussion here.

When you have your meeting make sure that you don't bring age or experince into any discussion on toilet policy. Stick to the facts and I'm sure you'll get a positive result.
  • It's not age, it's maturity. You can have immature 30 years old but then very mature 16 year olds. About 5 years ago a 16 year old was made team leader and she did a brilliant job.

I don't like the job no, of course I don't. But I used to go in and get on with it fine and reach all targets and not mind it. Since this girl has become team leader I absolutely hate going in because I get constantly harassed. I used to motivate myself and work with NO problems with these new managers. I'd reach every target, where I worked was clean and tidy and I got on with everyone. Now I dread going in.

I have to drink a lot of water and have explained this. I don't go every week in my shift. I've been 3 times as a matter of fact! And I cycle in in the cold which doesn't help.

Sorry this thread has got so detailed and gone on. And I think some of you have read me wrong, I know it's difficult when I've just come on here moaning. But when you've gone from being content and motivated at work to constantly being harassed and spoke to like an idiot you get fed up! Then being told you can't go to the toilet even after waiting til it was quiet and informing someone who was free. It just gets you down.

Plus there being NO jobs round here at all. The agencies have said not to even bother signing up because there's such a huge list of people waiting. Fingers crossed a brilliant job where my friend works should become available soon due to staff leaving. It's more law based and I have an English degree, but hopefully that'l be ok!

There are an awful lot of people on this thread who have not stated any medical background or experience, yet seem to have an in depth knowledge of the genito-urinary system. Congratulations you have just bypassed six years at medical school.

Stress incontinence, overactive bladder syndrome, urge incontinence, bacterial cystitis, interstitial cystitis, enlargement of the prostate .... Just to give you an idea of how common these are:
"In two large studies it was found that about 1 in 6 adults reported some symptoms of an overactive bladder. Symptoms vary in their severity. About 1 in 3 people with an overactive bladder have episodes of urge incontinence."

    http://www.patient.co.uk/health/Overactive-Bladder-Syndrome.htm

"Overall this is about 4 in 100 adults, and well over half of these are due to stress incontinence. Stress incontinence becomes more common in older women and as many as 1 in 5 women over the age of 40 have some degree of stress incontinence."
