Sorry to hear you're down, I can sympathise with you, I know people who are still spending even though they are in debt, splashing the cash/plastic as if there is no tomorrow:rolleyes:

I am getting used to our more frugal lifestyle, for example, yesterday my OH got the cookbooks out and chose some recipes to make, we take turns at trying something new, I might make it into a competition. He wouldn't have dreamt of doing this a few months ago.

If you fancy wine, pizza, chocs etc then just get one of them at a time and you won't feel guilty. Last week I treated myself to a magazine for £2.80 and it was rubbish, all adverts and pointless articles, I won't be wasting my hard-earned cash like that again in a hurry.:D

Also, look out for offers to amusements parks, leisure centres etc, they sometimes have good ones in papers, or send away offers or discount tokens.
A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.

Your sister just hasn't had her lightbulb moment yet. When she does (and hopefully it will be soon) you will be way ahead of her and she will feel jealous of you.

Having said that, I think you need to treat yourself now and again, but as long as it is a little treat it should be OK.

Hi BH - I agree that you're doing really well and we're all entitled to get a bit down sometimes especially when everyone else seems to be spending money. Do you shop at Tesco? Use their vouchers to get some cheap days out somewhere local, take a picnic and have fun!

Thanks all sorry i didn't respond sooner was off looking for pick me ups( kept checking back for new ideas. ) Yes I do shop at Tesco and will get £10 in points mid May so spending it on pizza and wine would be good. I never thought about using a shop bought pizza with wine, I would have blown £12 on a take away. Also staying with Tesco they do a box of value chocolates for 99p so that will be going on this weeks shopping list.
Also my pashmina from the freebies board turned up today and it's so soft and warm. I have signed up with pigsback and have 170 points so far. I am finding it hard to use but will read the other threads to try to figure it out. I am aiming for the £10 boots voucher to put towards christmas.

I think going back to college would do me the world of good so i'm looking into whether I will get the course paid. I think my brain is going dull sitting around so I want to do A level physics (that should wake it up lol) and help me get back into teaching if I ever sort out care for OH.

As for my sister (shakes head) she likes to keep up with everyone else and has now anounced that she's getting her son a mobile phone for his 8th birthday. I told her to buy a couple of ps2 games or dvds but she knows better. After all I'm the one struggling to pay of my debts not her (sigh)

As for me leaving this site, don't be silly you are all lovely people and we can support eachother. Hugs all and thank you:T

I can thoroughly recommend Tescos Soave at 2.52, its the nicest wine Ive had in a long while, bargainous too.

Darling, stuff your sister, ( in the nicest possible way) my sister is forever showing me links to the stuff shes bought ( £500 handbags, photos of holidays etc) and it does my head in. Ive been patient and all that, but who does it help? NO one. When she says "Ive bought a bag, guess how much it costs, I snap back, "what before or after the interest on your credit card?"

Makes me feel better anyway lol
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

It is not easy when you are counting every penny. You have had your light bulb moment. Please don't let it burn out.

Try and find fun and free things to do. My husband and I use to go out to museums as they are mostly free. We would put a £1 or £2 in to the collection pot. And it was lovely and we would spend hours looking around. Sign up to websites where you can tickets to see previews of films. We use to go at least twice a month for free. Down side is that they are normally about 6pm during the week. But there is the odd one at weekends.

Everyone sees being in debt as normal. Maybe it is but to me personally it is not.

Remeber the flash cars and flash holidays are liabilities and not assets. As they drain money and de value over time.

Don't worry about what other people are doing. Think about where you and your family want to be.

It is rather like diets the old saying is nothing tastes as good as being thin. Well for your money diet think nothing is as good as being debt free.

I wish you all the best. You will get there.

    Yours

    Calley

Lynzpower you've just made my day was needing a right good chuckle!

Brokenhearted - I know exactly how you feel! Part of my problem was always spending money on craft stuff to try and cheer myself up. Now I don't allow myself to buy anything crafty unless it's using money earned from ebay, if I want to buy something new, I need to sell something first ;)

I am so lucky to live where I do because we are surrounded by some bl**dy big hills so instead of going "window shopping" (hah, like we ever came home empty handed :D ) of a Sunday afternoon now we go trudging up the hills. It's hard work but what a sense of achievement when you get to the top! I don't know how old your kiddies are but it's great for them too - plus tires them out loads cos they tend to go up and down the hill twice with all the running about they do! Best of all it's FREEEEEEEEE :rotfl:
