Your wrong there,i took my phone back to Phone4u within 14 days and canceled the contract,Just go in the store like i did and demand it,they dont like customers complaining esp when other customers are buying.

That is one way of getting them to do what you want.

Go in at lunchtime or at the weekend when there are lots of other customers around, be VERY vocal and don't let them take to to the back of the store or off into a room somewhere and keep saying (loudly) 'Well you didn't say THAT when you sold it to me!'.

You'd be amazed how quickly they see your side of things ;)

A loud 'is it because I is black' would not go amiss either (unless of course you are not black):p
  • hmmm I would love to do that, but in my circumstances I don't see on what grounds I could do this.

Oh I am so stressed out by it all!!

Can't you just update the software to v11 firmware - think v12 is out as well but you (as the user) can do that yourself on your pc.
  • I am now on phone number 3 and having no luck.
The salesman in store said its mainly the white ones they are having problems with, and said he'd call head office to get it swapped to the black phone as he's not heard any compaints.

Unfortunately, he's not in today and I just know the other managers will say it's impossible to do as black/white phones count as non like-for-like.

I am going to be stuck with a non working phone for 2 years!

as far as im aware you can have a non like-for-like exchange within the first 28 days with p4u
  • oh Im probably on about day 35 now.

I swapped my phone THREE times like-for-like and so now Im over the 28 day period.

The only reason I want the black one is because the guy at P4U claims there's never been any mention of problems.

If I go in later today they are going to offer me a like-for-like...

what's the point I've already had three!! I either want the black phone or a different handset altogether. fingers crossed x
  • if you have had 3 like4like exchanges you should be entitled to a non like4like if they are faulty however they may tell you you have to send it for repair as its over 28days since you signed the dreaded dotted line... fingers crossed tho
  • Went in this evening, they called head office and said all they can offer is a like 4 like.

Does anybody know my rights on this? The phone is clearly faulty. The guy suggested I go home and update to version 12, I try all channels to update... and what do you know the firmware isn't available for my product code :@:@

Also, the manager informed me today that even in the initial 14 day period I couldn't have swapped non like4like, which is the opposite of what the salesman told me when I took out the contract

I only signed it because I thought I had options if the phone wasn't for me.

One of them is lying and I want to know which one.
I feel I've been sold a dodgy phone and they aren't accepting responsibility oh someone please help what can I do?!?!
  • I took out a new contract with phones4u in May and got a Google G1 with it.

After some 2 months, I had to return it due to it continuously losing its service.

I was told my only option was to book it in for repair and be 3 weeks w/a my phone, with no replacement being given and with my line rental continueing to be payable in full.

Feeling that I had no other option I agreed. After 4 weeks, I was given a replacement phone as my own was deemed not fixeable.

Less than three weeks later, problems occurred with the new phone too (different problems), so I went back to the store. I was told that no one in the store knew about the phone as they "only sold it for a month or so" and I was put onto a customer helpline and left with it.

Despite having had the phone for less than 28 days I was told my only option was to book it for repair, w/a replacement. After explaining that I was not happy being w/a my phone while continuing to pay for it I was offered a £ 15.00 cheque, "towards a new phone or towards your line rental". Of course, I did not accept this and cited citizen`s advice, according to which the responsibility for faulty phones is with the store and they should provide me with a like for like replacement while my own phone is being repaired. Again, this was refused by the gentleman on the phone and the lady in the shop, who was duely joined by the store manager who reiterated that they could do nothing else for me but sending it away for repair, w/a me receiving a replacement. I stated that their customer service went downhill as soon as my money was spent with them, and I was told to "leave my shop and not come back".

I now booked it in with T-mobile, who, despite having nothing to do with it, reassured me that it would be returned within 2 weeks max, while providing me with a basic loan phone.

I am extremely unhappy with the customer service I received from phones4u - they were attentive and courteous when I came in looking to buy, but as soon as I have done so they ceased caring.

Fortunately, I am a member of WhichMagazine, which I`ll turn to tomorrow. I`ll also involve Citizen`s Advice and the Ombudsman, as it is not on that another company has to solve the problem which they should be responsible for.
