Paying cash IN over the counter at Barclays???

I need to pay some cash IN to somebody elses account over the counter at Barclays, the account is not in my name and I know that with Nationwide if you want to pay cash IN you need to have the debit card and pin number otherwise they won't let you!

Does anyone know if Barclays is the same - it's £1000 if that makes a difference.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts :)

You just need the Sort code and Account number, there are paying in slips for you to fill.
  • Thanks, I have the account details was just worried that they would do a 'Nationwide' on me and say I need the debit card or passbook to pay money in!

No probs, I'm sure having the card speeds things up, but you should be fine, I've paid in £600 myself in this way.

  • Nationwide lets me pay cash into the wifes account no problem without the card, just gave them the account no and sort code.

My branch has signs up saying that the card/ passbook are required and you won't be able to deposit without them! Although it isn't my account luckily I had the card and knew the PIN otherwise the cashier was adamant I couldn't pay the cash in.

Don't bother filling out a paying-in slip if it's just cash - they'll print the receipt for you anyway.

Just give them the sort code, account number, and confirm the account number to them.

(Ask them to put a reference on if you need one.)

   Did the cashier know you were using someone else's PIN??? They should never allow this, even to pay money in.

You must be confusing them with a different building society, because you do NOT need your PIN to pay money in at the Nationwide. You simply hand them your debit/cash card with the money or cheque and they print you a receipt for the amount. I often pay money in at the Nationwide like this. What would you do with your PIN anyway? They don't have devices on the counter to key it in like the post office have. They would hardly ask you to write it down!

Perhaps you mean paying in at the cash machine instead of the counter?

No PIN needed for a deposit at a Nationwide cash machine - in fact it asks you if you want to do a deposit before it even asks for a PIN!

It's NATWEST that need a PIN if paying in with a debit card, not Nationwide. But they do provide paying in books as well.
