Wonder if anyone can help me as when I try to play AVI videos I`m getting a message saying `codec error` and it plays audio only - no video .
I`m using windows media player if this makes any difference , should I be using something else ....?

Try videolan, plays most files
http://www.videolan.org/
If you want to use media player, you probably need the codecs,
try the k-lite codec pack
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm
