Shower / bath or both?

We`ve decided we would like out bathroom re-doing. Currently have a massive corner bath and no shower (don`t laugh) but would like a big walk in shower which I think would mean we have to loose the bath... just wondering if those of you who have only a shower miss a bath, or do you get used to it. I don`t want a bath with shower over it!

Thanks

Personally I would be perfectly happy with just a shower I rarely bathe.. but hubby prefers a bath and to be honest a lot of people do so if you were to sell the house you might find no bath would put people off.. but if you plan on staying for a longish time I would go for the shower and you could always change it later on if you wanted...

I decided 10 years ago when I had to put a bathroom in my new house that it would be a big shower enclosure, I've tried baths since when I've been in hotels and they just feel wrong and I end up having a shower afterward.
I did consider putting one in recently when I revamped the bathroom, with a mind to future selling, but in the end went for a large quadrent enclosure, whats the piont of spending money on something I wont use and for someone elses benefit? The cash that would of gone on the bath went on tiles and underfloor heating.

We got rid of the bath tub and install a nice big shower enclosure last year. No more bath tub to scrub!

I found having a shower in an enclosure (being all flat) much more relaxing than having one in a bath tub.

Didn't use the bath much anyway, perhaps about 3 times a year.

Thanks for all your replies. I must admit I love my big bath but its starting to look a bit tatty as its been in for 16 years so I have had my moneys worth (it was a B & Q best). We have a 12 year old daughter and just think a large shower would be so much easier, but someone may be able to perform a miracle and knock down the wall into our large airing cupboard and we may be able to fit both in! just depends on £££.

To get some ideas would it be a good idea to go to somewhere like the Bath Store with measurements and see what they can plan so I know if its possible or would I need a plumber to come and see it to let me know my options. I just want ideas at the moment.

    thanks
  • I've just moved into sheltered housing, nd i love my walk in shower, although if i had the choice i would have both.
You cant beat a good long soak!!
  • I'm a bath lover myself. I would never buy a house without a bath, but the other posters here make a good point, if you are going to stay in the house it doesn't matter. I've always disliked showers, until we had our bathroom re-done a year ago and got a lovely powerful rain shower. It is an over the bath one, but that doesn't cause us any problems. In an ideal world I suppose we would have had a bath plus seperate free standing shower cubicle, but we just didn't have the space. Personally now I wouldn't be without either the shower or the bath.
  • ps - don't know if you are going to buy from the bath store (or just looking there for ideas), but we got our toilet from there and it is rubbish!

I downloaded sweet home 3D from one of the shareware sites when I was planning mine.
It was just a case of sticking in the measurements and using the templates to give me an idea of the layouts
