Because they're not actually ending up with more than they would get if he wasn't living there. Because if they're paying for his food then they're worse off. Because they're old and they don't know the score. I would feel differently if he was contributing to the household, but he's not. You have to feel sorry for people when they have a leech as a child.

They have 2 children together who dont speak any English. At first he commuted every weekend to Italy but then they split up and now he commutes there every month or so to see the children.
    ..........
And all this has been done on the back of earning £1,500 per month (manager of big Casino in the West End of London)

So is he fluent in Italian?

I agree with jenniferpa & Broken hearted all at the same time. :o

Its easy to say fraud is fraud but when you know circumstances then things become more personal and you can easily start to be more sympathetic towards people.

I think £1,500 a month isn't much money at all for a manager of a big casino in the West End.

Of course his parents will speak highly of him - its their son and he will never be doing any wrong in their eyes.

Are they relatives of yours Black_Saturn? or very close friends?

What's every one so het up about?? He's paying tax, just in Italy. His parents might not be committing benefit fraud, depends. There is no non-dep deduction applied in certain circumstances ie certain levels of DLA. If he's paying tax albeit in Italy wouldnt he be considered as that country being his main residence? No point frightening his parents without knowing all the facts. Who are we to judge?? If you're that concerned, report it and then you've done your bit and you can sleep easy. If you don't want to report it then leave it!!

I expect there is a dual tax agreement with Italy, if he pays his tax there then he has no liability in the UK.
I find it interesting that the OP appears to know all the ins and outs of someone else's financial situation. Either report to the Benefit Cheat hotline or mind your own business is my take on it. Can't for the life of me see what benefit will accrue from posting this on an internet forum.

Thats why I asked if B_S was related to or close friends with the family. To know how much a neighbour earns is odd in my opinion.

Apart from my husband no-one else knows how much I earn. Its one of those things you keep to yourself - well, little old me does anyway :D

£1500 a month is a low monthly wage in london ESPECIALLY for a casino manager.
Personally I dont see the problem here.
A bloke marries an italian and decides to stay at his parents until he can get a well paid job in italy, the marraige breaks down so he ends up staying at his parents indefinately probably due to not being able to afford to rent his own house(especially if he's in london) due to having an avarage wage and having to support his kids in italy etc plus if he is in london he's no hope of council house has he.
If he's really so well off and owns loads of holiday homes do you really think he'd be working for £350 a week in London and living with his parents?
    I dont think so.

A few points to raise ... it is for HMRC to decide residence status and if he lives here and workes here (and based on the onfo supplied)he should be paying tax here..as he would be considered resident. He may well have been legit paying tax in Italy when he was living there..now he is not. The rental properties he owns generate income - all of which should be declared here as he is resident here. If he has a rental property here he could live in it..but would lose income..all of which he receives without tax deducted. Black Saturn may have got the wages wrong on the job or perhaps he does not work that many hours .. he does jet off to Italy every month after all! I think the parents are not aware they are really doing any wrong. I think the son knows exactly what he is doing. If you are a friend Black Saturn I would suggest you tell the parents how bad things are..the son needs to not be registered at their address(probably not anyway!)then the Casino needs to have a visit from HMRC as why they would pay him without deducting tax without HMRC authorisation is what confuses me. HMRC would never allow him to work here all this time and still be considered non resident-they obviously do not know. £1500 per month cash in hand .........?????
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

I would not be keen on report the parents for fraud as they are old couple and it would personally do more harm them good. Could even kill them with the stress.

Tough. If they're such an 'old couple' didn't they learn the difference between right and wrong when they were kids? This is what old people say, when talking about the difference between them and young people now.

If I knew about a situation like this I would 'shop' them without a moment's hesitation. You'd better believe it - I've done it before, to a woman who was claiming although working as a florist. No one has ever given me any kind of leeway, because of my age or because of anything else!

Tax in italy is way more than in the uk, from what I understand its something like 60%.

IMHO if he has managed to buy all these homes on £1500 pcm then there is someting odd there anyway..

I think they should be reported, we all pay tax which is supposed to be used for those that need it, not those that are greedy. If the parents chose not to ask for money then thats their silly mistake.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!
