  • Same problems here. Seems they will give you loan money but not any grant due.
The whole SFE thing is a joke. Started applying for loans for our kids in April. All evidence sent and returned but still not finished.
Just wonder if they will try to forget about the grants the kids are due.
  • Anyone who's interested in doing so, i reccomend signing this petition on the 10 Downing street website
    petitions.number10.gov.uk/Finance-Student/

(sorry, can't do proper links yet)

    Here's the full link http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/Finance-Student/
The petition says: Student Finance England is a cumbersome, over complicated, bureaucratic system. Money could be saved by linking directly with HMRC. Both students and parents experience needless difficulties which make the application process stressful.

Problem is that without the income assessed part there will be no Grant and I believe it's this bit that the uni's look at for giving out Bursaries. The only saving grace is they can' tell us they haven't had the evidence because they have used for assessing and finalising her application. So I'm hoping they'll be able to link it up, which is what they should have done in the first place. Short of giving my 2 daughters height weight and eye colour I couldn't have nade it easier for them.
I'm still waiting for a phone call from them. I'll keep you informed.

I'm fit to bursting. I did not receive a phone call from SLC and phoned again this morning. Therefore having to speak to another new person giving the same details. I realised that it was the 20th of May when I was told that the financial info had not been entered for daughter no.2 and on the 29th we were assured that it had now been done.
So here we are three months later with this same problem. Oh and guess what since Monday a new problem has occurred in that they are now telling me that I'm not linked to either daughter????? Every time I ring it's something else. So not feeling confident to just be told it will be sorted out I asked for a Supervisor, after several minutes of demanding to speak to one as the advisor was very reluctant to pass me over. Well it was a waste of time. he couldn't do any more than was already being done and I was told by him that I couldn't speak to anyone seniour and/or be given their name because of data protection.

So basically I can do absolutely nothing about complaining despite the fact they're supposed to be giving a service because I am not allowed to speak to anyone in Authority. I find this unbelievable. What they're saying basically is like it or lump it, you have to sit and wait!!

Surely there's someone I can speak to about this. I have signed the petition, but it's not going to help my situation now.
  • Nobody really cares about the complaints, it's not going to make any difference to these companies. In fact, I think the more you complain, the more likely they are to get yet another government contract to mess up more peoples' lives.

I doubt trading standards covers this sort of thing, the CAB's about the only place I can think of to help. Hmmm... perhaps I'll try them after I've written a stroppy (but polite) letter requesting they pull their finger out and sending it by recorded delivery.
  • Good news everybody - a friend has passed on this information
    http://www.slc.co.uk/pdf/complaints%20leaflet_Jan08.pdf

Tells you what to do next in case of complaint against SLC.

Looks like they're going to be busy in the next few days!
  • After reading this thread I am starting to realise how naive (and stupid) I was to send our supportive information evidence (P60's) ,for our son, in the normal post without sending it special delivery :o

I've not tried to contact them or anything, I was trying to be patient but maybe I should contact them to see if they have received the P60's?
  • [QUOTE=but_maybe_I_should_contact_them_to_see_if_they_have_received_the_P60's?[/QUOTE]

    sounds like a plan!
  • Can anyone help me also? Sent my application in at the end of June (a paper application), have not received ANY correspondence from them whatsoever, have been on line and told my application is approved, but I have not received any confirmation of what I am to receive and when, cannot get through on the telephone at all so am totally confused about the whole thing, although my husband has received a log in from them today, but I never did. There are letters on my log in saying that they have sent stuff to me in the post, but cannot open the GIF files. Is anyone else that frustrated about it, am a mature student and really cannot afford to be without any money at the start of the course
