Car out of waranty and not fit for purpose

Hi...i bought a 12mth old Vauxhall car from a dealer in march 2007 and the warranty ran out in march 2009. During the warranty period the turbo failed and had to be replaced which my local dealer took care of. In July this year the turbo failed again and i was told by Vauxhall customer care that as it was out of warranty there was nothing they could do. I had it replaced myself at the cost of £1000, but had it back on the road for 2 weeks and the alternator failed. This was also replaced by me at considerable cost. Now there is a problem with the gearbox, that i have researched on the internet and the concensus is that i will need to replace the gearbox, and also today i suffered complete loss of power and the warning light on the dash for the engine management system has come on. This car has only done 85000 miles and is a little over 3 years old, should i realistically be able to go back to the retailer and demand that something be done? The car is now in negative equity re the finance and essential for my work and it is causing me to incur debts.
any advice would be appreciated

Sorry, I don't understand your 'only 85k miles' comment, that is very excessive mileage for a 3yr old car, the average is 12-15k, so your car has done the mileage of a 6-7yo car.
Bearing that in mind I'm not sure there is anything the retailer can do, but hopefully I'm wrong and a 'consumer rights' guru will be along soon.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
you bought second hand - you can't expect the same service etc as you would get with a new car, certainly not when it's done 85k miles.0

It might be high mileage, but is it resonable to expect the turbo to have to be replaced TWICE? as well as the alternator and gearbox? plus whatever the hells wrong with the engine now!
i have had 2 mondeos previoulsy both with in excess of 200k on the clock and the only items i ever had to replace were the wear and tear stuff ie clutch (once) brakes and tyres etc0 -
Those were Fords, this is a Vauxhall, you can't compare the two.
How many of the £85k miles have you done, i.e was it thrashed before you even got it?Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
the car had done 10000 when i bought it and has a FULL service history, the mileage is due to me working all round the country, the car has not been THRASHED and frankly i find it incredible that you could just jump to that conclusion....an far from being "cheap" the car cost £13000. If you've got nothing constructive to add, please keep your stupid comments to yourself.0

I am afraid there's little you can do. You have been unlucky. The car is not 'unfit for purpose', rather it has suffered a series of mechanical failures, perhaps due to the high mileage or perhaps not, I can't say. I've got nothing else to suggest except to avoid Vauxhall next time.0

It's not a Zafira is it? My daughter is having a terrible time with a Zafira not long out of warranty.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
