I don't see how it's extraordinary... the doctor didn't lie on the certificate - it stated he was signed off from work to provide 24hr care due to post partum complications, and it was 2 different doctors (and not from the same surgery) that provided the notes, both saying that it is quite normal for the man to be signed off from work to care for the wife and baby following a complicated birth that needs the mum to have complete rest and therefore needs a 'carer' on hand 24/7.

Sorry OP to take this off topic, I just wanted to explain the situation that these 2 commented on.

Certainly extraordinary in my book - as is your being under the care of two different practices.

I'm so interested in this point (being signed off sick when you aren't) that I'll ask a few doctors if it is indeed common practice.

Some people think that every one has a nice nest egg of £1-2K to solve any emergencies. Most of us don't. We work hard, juggle childcare and manage to pay our billls. Sometimes an unexpected event will throw all the budgets out of control.

Poster's please can you keep your holier than thou comments to yourselves.

Perhaps you might care to join this thread and make some practical suggestions, as others have done. No - thought not!
