Just going to boil rest of beetroot from allotment has anyone tried roasting it? I wasnt sure if you had to start it off in saucepan or not

I love it roasted, you dont have to boil it first, I just rub a bit of oil over, and roast it whole, its delish still warm from the oven with melted butter parmasan and salt and pepper, if you are short of time you can zap it in the micro for a while before roasting, but I prefer it in the oven. Happy Birthday for yesterday :T

Diva thanks for the chilli jam recipe, will give it a go x and Sunny, thanks I will freeze some too x

Nice bright day here, have got one load on the line, and another in the wm, both should dry nicely today.

Going to have a good tidy up today, the garden needs a lot of attention, it seems to have gone wild in the week we were away.

Going to get the dog out later, and maybe pick a few blackberrys at the same time.

My grape vine is covered in grapes, so will research a recipe for grape jelly too.

We have a sainsbugs delivery coming today, left over cold chicken for dinner today with salad and mash, will do dd an omlette.

    Noah's :rotfl:at the cover thing :o

    have fun all xx

    Morning everyone :hello:

Most unusually for a Monday morning I am up and about and organised :D. Dropped the girls at the bustop and was in Tesco for 8.30am . Treated myself to a huge bunch of sunflowers reduced to 60p and still with a week of life in them yet so they are brightening up my desk :D. So shopping is done, spuds are on to boil for mash for dinner, chicken is roasting and another pot of lentil soup is simmering. Monday is Brownies night so I like to make tea in advance and just reheat as required. Bread dough is rising and the second load of bedding is about to go on the pulley. Housework is mostly done but want to give the bathroom a deep clean today. The dog has decided she likes to accompany me to the loo so there are black hairs everywhere (hers not mine Aussie )
Have just spent half an hour tidying up the greenhouse and will get out to plant some bulbs at some stage today. Some of the pots need tidying on the deck too and the windowboxes all need fed.
Found a fabulous blackberry spot near the beach yesterday but they're not ripe yet so I'll be checking that every day.
Will walk the dog to the post office in a bit and pick up some milk from farmfoods then I'm planning an afternoon of knitting to finish these damn bunnies.
OH is off even though we don't get the bank holiday here as he wants to finish mending the storm doors and painting them.

Ladygrim great news about your hubby
    Churchie :hello:
Nice to see you Jet77 and Gers :hello:
I took a doggie bag from the carvery we went to yesterday too Lillibet ;) It was for the dog but the old couple at the next table had heaped their plates and were shoving loads of meat into freezer bags under the table . it will probably feed them for a week. :rotfl:

    Bye for now

    Good morning folks,

Hester hugs to you. I am off work for 6 weeks to sort out ds starting school. I won't want to go back either.
Penpen a well in the garden, wow! I want one.
Lillibet ouch. I hope your hand isn't too sore
NPM the holidays are nearly over. Hang in there and hugs.

Day 4 of "Operation sleep wars". A small sleepy voice announced "mummy I love you" at 5:40am. I called back that I loved him too and to go back to sleep. I heard a couple of big yawns, then there was nothing until his light came on at 6am.

I have ironing to do this morning, and my friends have started "healthy eating" so I am going to make some cherry scones for us all with wholemeal flour.

    Take care all of you

I was just thinking -hey what a fab idea, making brownies once a week, yummy. Then I realised you probably mean Brownie Guides :o:rolleyes::o

Anyway, I can't make brownies 'cos I managed to walk right by the chocolate in Waitrose this morning- well done me;). I've just been there to do my weekly shop. Decided to give the farmshop a miss today but managed to get Worcestershire grown green beans and apples from Waitrose and plums from Herefordshire and all my other fruit and veg from the UK apart from bananas and garlic.

Lunch will be baguettes with crème fraîche, onion, bacon and gruyère on and some salad leaves. Plums for afters.

Then we're off to the great outdoors.

Supper will be Morrocan style lamb stew (made yesterday) with couscous plus leftover treacle tart.

    enjoy your bank holiday all;)

    Afternoon all,

Will you lot stop discussing blackberry jam, pies and jelly please....haven't seen a ripe one here yet so am going mad....will make some jelly with apples and blackberries if I ever get any.

Cold here to-day with wind and heavy showers....was in the airport at 9 am with DD2 and family, they should be almost back in Highbury by now, as DGS2 and DD4 are off to school the house seems dead with just OH and me here....and Sile of course.

Bedding just in WM, not sure where I will hang it to dry as no point putting it outside. Dinner will be some kind of 'stewy' thing made with chicken and bacon, need something warming on such a day.....have heavy jacket on all morning and may light the living room fire later, cosier than heating and cheaper too as timber is free!

Another here who loves roast beetroot, we have a nice crop this year so am really making a glutton of myself, have gone off it pickled so usually just freeze what I want to keep. Dwarf beans are providing at least 2 dinners a week, as we all love them it is unlikely that any will get to the freezer.

Hugs to all in need or want

Hi, I've been MIA having had a week in Wales with both sets of parents (they only live a couple of miles apart) We've only got one more week of holidays until school re starts. This year is going to be strange for me as DS2 starts full time school. He's only just 4 and will be one of the youngest in his class. I had thought that I might try finding a part time job later in the year, but we've now been told that DS2 will need at least one more operation if not 2 so I'm going to leave things until he's sorted. I spent 3 weeks in hospital with him earlier in the summer and then had to teach him how to walk again - it was a good job I wasn't working otherwise life would have been much harder.

Today, DH has gone out for a bike ride so we're doing some craft stuff. Tonight we're going out for dinner as DH won a free meal for 2 at a pub quiz.

Yesterday I went to a quilt open day which was at a local quilt shop. Some of the work was very beautiful.

mmmmmmm, treacle tart, might go and whip one up for dinner, haven't had it for ages, will ask oh to grab some cream!

Just wanted to ask as I'm sure I've read that you do most of your shopping at Waitrose, what are the best bargains there, or things that you can't buy elsewhere easily? We have a new one just opened nearby, opposite the local Asda actually! When I lived in the South I used Waitrose quite a lot, and found that wine and veg were always pretty good quality and value, and the offers they had were usually worth a trip.

Have done cottage pie, beef and veggie versions, and frozen portions too. Need to get on and peel some apples and stew those down and get them into the freezer, will dig out the old marg pots that I get everyone to save and freeze in those. Need to be careful as I freeze baked beans in marg tubs too, and nobody is gonna want bean crumble with custard or apples on toast!

Just popped in to say the boiled ham is DELICIOUS!

Just need to blitz the cooking liquid to turn it into a nice thick soup and then let it cool before putting it in the freezer.

    Ham sandwich anyone??

    LG

P.S. Thanks for all the kind words about my husbands news - been a worrying few months - hopefully he has now turned the corner xx
