I had mega problems with my PC so I bought Nortons 2006 to stop my system continuously being hacked, trojans, viruses etc, Iv'e put Nortons Security 2006 along with Ghost and still trojans and homepage hijackers are trying. However Nortons is stopping this but keeps asking for the system to be scanned is this normal, im fed up of restarting my PC all the time and just seem to be paronoid that my system is being hacked.
Should I be running anything else along side the Nortons or should the norton stop everything.
Im obviously not good with PC's and need some help.
THANKS!

Norton what 2006 ? You can set how often Norton scans the system in its options.
I'd download Ewido its very good at finding and getting rid of nasties.
Also if you are using Internet Explorer change to Firefox.
In addition download and run ccleaner regularly to get rid of junk on the PC (uncheck the yahoo toolbar option)That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thank you for your reply Penrhyn.
The Nortons ive got is Norton Internet Security 2006 which also includes Norton Ghost 10.0.
I'll have alook at the sites you've recommended, many thanks.0 -
I wouldn't worry too much about your computer being hacked,it's highly unlikely it's anything serious. As long as you have a firewall and upto date virus protection you should be fine.Norton will keep prompting for a system scan if it hasn't completed a scheduled one, complete system scans shouldn't really be necessary that often if you have 'real-time' protection enabled.
The advice about Firefox is good although you may find it isn't supported on quite a substantial number of commercial sites ( for example I can't bank or view property details on certain sites.)....you may wish to consider Opera,it apparently has much greater compatability.
As far as homepage hijacking attempts go, you don't happen to have any teenagers in the household do you?0 -
Thank you for your advise,
I hav'nt any teenagers in the house, how ever I think that i've solved the homepage query now, I think it was me changing my homepage to MSN and the norton was thinking it may have been changed by hackers.
Thanks again0 -

if Nortons keeps asking for the system to be scanned, its probabily becaus you haven't done a full PC scan yet. may i suggest you do it in SafeMode... shouldnt come up again after that... will also eliminate any viruses/trojans you have on your PC0 -

I am having real problems trying to get Norton Internet security 2006 loaded even after following the links on the error messages to the Symantec site. But I am persevering. What is Ewido?
Also I've had a search through other posts, so apologies if it has already been covered, but how do I remove all the personal information from my PC before I recycle it?0 -
ewido is an anti spyware piece of software
www.ewido.net
there are instructions for downloading and using it in the Malware removal thread

may be worth following steps 1 to 4 about cleaning up your system before attempting to install Nortons againEx forum ambassador

Firstly then I would recommend doing a free online scan with any provider you wish to use... there is a pinned thread with them all at the top of the page. This will tell you if you have got rid of all nasties... If not then clean the machine manually and then RE-INSTALL Norton. Some viruses will actually disable parts of AV softwares if you install the AV software AFTER the machine has been infected. Personally I wouldn't bother with Operah OR Firefox but hey that's just me (and 98% of all users who visits my websites apparently). As others have mentioned you could find problems with compatibility (and that includes your AV software and ULR filters...).DFW Nerd #025DFW no more!
