Help needed re buying (and maybe unlocking?) a Samsung u600 pink PAYG

I want to buy this phone for my daughter, but it costs £20 more to buy it with Orange compatibility than several other networks (Virgin, Vodafone etc) Could I buy it with one of the cheaper ones and unlock it? I already have an Orange PAYG SIM so don't need to obtain one, and it has to be Orange as I live in an area where none of the other networks work reliably. Any helpful advice would be gratefully received!
